I wonder how many at Storm game, and why both teams fixtured at same time.

They would be lucky to get 25,000 in Aami Park nowhere near 35,000.

My daughter and wife decided to have a brunch get together so I could go to the footy. We had a nice time and I left to go to the footy a little later than I would normally. Arrived at Sunbury line to discover no trains. So decided to drive to the Broady line even if I arrived after the start of the game. Mother's Day traffic was heavy. Arrived at Glenbervie  to see the train leave the station. Next train in 20 minutes. By my calculations that would have got me to game well into the second quarter. At this point I admitted defeat and return home. Family was there so we continued mother's Day. Why does the MFC always seem to get these games on mother's Day? Oh well replay tonight will have to do.

We haven't had a MothersDsy game for  at least 5/6 seasons I don't think.
You can't  assume trains run on weekends and there was parking at the ground I assume today, which you could have used.

You have made my day Hdm.

I’m going to games more than ever this year and I’m two hours east of Melbourne. Only game played in Melbourne I’ll miss at this rate is the freo game in a few weeks (too slow getting the date in at work 😭)

Brought 2 pals to the game this week to boost attendance, usually go alone.

Enjoying having a tin at the ground as well.

Those days are long gone Roy. Bloody plastic cups these days.

The last 2 games we've played were day games and they're currently testing/allowing tins for these.

Like all good things, some [censored] will ruin it eventually though.

I'm predicting 25,000 for a game that would attract 50,000 on virtually any other day and timeslot.

I'm delighted to have been so wrong. A 35,000+ crowd is a fine effort for this particular day and timeslot.

I couldn't attend the game because of family commitments but when I did have the chance to watch it on delay via Kayo the first thing I noticed was the relatively healthy crowd numbers.

Well there you go I was not aware of that. It will only take one [censored] to throw one.

Should have been one more LDC but I fell at the last hurdle.

35K is a good crowd considering it’s the average attendance since 2000 between the 2 sides at the MCG, and then you factor Mothers Day.

it was a good crowd indeed!  Vast majority were Demons fans also, i'd say almost 30K

Sitting behind the cheer squad, it was a great atmosphere

I was thinking we’d be lucky to push to up to 30k for the game too! Was a very good crowd considering it was Mother’s Day.

I agree it was a decent crowd and atmosphere.

We can't underestimate the effect of covid on reduced numbers. I'm finding the same with other group hobbies - music ensembles and local social events (I live in a regional area). A bunch of people are just choosing not to at the moment, especially older peeps.

But hopefully things will keep improving.

Which game is going to be our first home game with 60k plus?

I believe the highest attendance of our home games so far was the Opening round?

Could it be the Swans one?

Otherwise it looks like we may have to wait until the latter part of the season (Collingwood or Carlton).

Carlton will be our only hope of 60K IMO. That game has the potential to have a big crowd but unfortunately won't be on a Friday night as Marvel host three games that weekend. That is unless they do a Friday night double header - St Kilda V Brisbane and Melbourne V Carlton, but they won't do that.

I don't think Collingwood will be in the hunt by round 21 so their supporters won't turn up in droves to our home game. (They will for QBday though).

Sydney game could get 45k

Freo game could get 30K

Brisbane game could get 35K

The last remaining home game is against Port in Alice which will get about 6K.

1pm is the dumbest timeslot for a Sunday let alone Mother's Day.

Put it an hour later and I reckon it cracks 40k.

Nope got served a can yesterday and was beautiful sitting in the sum enjoying a can watching the Demons do their thing.

Just don't serve them at Richmond or Collingwood games, should be right 😂

I'm hoping some neutrals come along to the Freo and Bris games to see a potential GF matchup - terrible timeslots for both though.

Some geniuses there in the AFL HQ, can't believe they are so inept to put a decent fixture together.

Agreed.

Wished the Brisbane game was on a Friday night, but the AFL were always going to give us the Thursday night slot as both sides have a bye the week before.

I don't mind the 4:40pm Saturday though.

35,737 is a pretty decent crowd imo.

Third largest on mothers day for the last few decades.

If it wasnt mothers day it would have been 40K and if it wasnt for covid probably 45K.

Also, it was our first mothers day game since 2013, so we cant be complaining about that.

Because of three marvel games in round 22, Carlton game will be a Saturday night I reckon and will crack 70K imo.

I think you are correct, I have improved but there are still somethings that are indoors venues that I am still avoiding. I know a few people with not so good respiratory situations that large still avoid crowds even if only a dozen people.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
