Yes I only just realised I don’t watch non-Melbourne games to see who wins, but rather to barrack for a side to lose. Huge shame that the Bombers got up, the Hawthorn match is looking promising and hopefully the wheels can fall off the Carlton bandwagon. I’m not a nice person.

That's alright mate. Your heart's in the right place.

Starting to think St Kilda are a chance to feature in prelim final week.

Both clubs had a brief taste in 2018 and 2020 and then had down years.

Why not them?

I'll believe it when I see it.

They're all over Hawthorn but so was Carlton last week and Hawthorn fought back.

Even assuming that doesn't happen, I maintain that Hawthorn's not a good side. It's clear now that beating Port Adelaide in Adelaide isn't what we thought it might have been. Their other win was vs North.

I suspect Hawthorn is far more likely to be like Adelaide from 2021 than, say, us from 2021. Adelaide last year got off to a flyer, were 3-1, had beaten Geelong...then finished bottom 4. (FWIW, Collingwood may fall into the same sort of bracket - I'm not sure they're fit or good enough to keep playing the way McRae's had them playing so far this year).

St Kilda look like they may be a solid side from the mid third of the ladder but I'm more than happy to reserve judgment until the end of the year to see if they produce consistent football.

Agree it’s far too early to make big calls about St Kilda but there’s a bit of evidence starting to mount up.

A Win over a 3-1 Fremantle in hostile territory.

A win over highly likely finalist in Richmond.

A dominant  first half today over a side that probably won’t play finals but a team that has stated the season well nonetheless.

They’ve started the season in great fashion and I’m sure our club will be taking a bit of notice of them.

So the Carlton player kicking in after Davies put it out on the full moves one way, then changes direction (to kick across goal) while still outside the playing surface. That's out of bounds & a throw in. Do the umpires not know the rules? It's fair dinkum amateur hour.

Reckon the Saints are slowly putting something together. The Pies are like Essendon under Knights. All out attack is great when it's working, and not when it's not. And when the other teams have worked you out ...

Cripps has done his hammy. Sad for him, but very not sad for the Blues.

The same Fremantle who struggled to put away a likely bottom 4 side in Adelaide?

They trailed Richmond by more than 4 goals halfway through the third quarter, but then played 1.5 good quarters and won.

Similar to the Fremantle game, where they trailed for the first 2.5 quarters but then playing 1.5 good quarters to win.

Looks like they'll keep it up vs Hawthorn but still, I need to see more.

Also just took a look at their fixture, and it's brutal. They have two games still to come against each of Brisbane, Geelong and Sydney, as well as still having to play us, Carlton and the Dogs, they have six more interstate games (one of which is their own home game in Cairns) and one of those two Geelong matches is in Geelong,

Cripps subbed out of the game, a Suns upset just became more likely.

Hamstring injury

Go the Suns and Might even barrack for Port next week. Goodbye Blues

Izak Rankine was going to be a world beater. He's become very, very average.

All the talk about him being worth $700k a year boggles through mind

There's got to be questions about his application.

And who’s  to say they won’t go 4-2 against Brisbane, Geelong and Sydney?

And who’s  to say they won’t beat us at the G, a venue where we’ve been quite frankly pathetic against St Kilda in recent years?

IMO they’re a team on the rise and they’ve got a terrific percentage as a launching pad.

great to see Whorethorn getting thoroughly thrashed.
May it continue for Decades

Look at that foul jumper

50 m.  FMD.  What is the rule?

No one knows. The umps certainly don't. They [censored] around with talking back to the ump and encroaching 1cm sideways of the mark if a player fakes a handpass. But what about the fundamental rules of the game?

Leave contentious things like holding the ball/man out of it for the moment.

They allow flagrant rugby passes. I'm not talking about slick handpasses where it's hard to tell if it's legal or not. I mean full on two handed scoops.

They allow kicks that go 7 and 8 metres. They allow players to run more than 15 metres.

They allow flagrant pushes in the back.

Things that have not been seen in the game since year dot, until very recently.

They're adjudicating to an imaginary version of the rules that only exists in someone's head.

They can't get basic, fundamental laws of the game right. They are incompetent.

The umpires are incompetent because they are led by incompetents who don't know what they are supposed to be doing.

Chol is playing very well for the suns. He's been a good pick up for them

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
