Finn Emile-Brennan

Recommended Posts

Seems we have another talented NGA player coming through with the Dandenong Stingrays this season. Named 2nd best on ground against the Ranges last Saturday with 30 touches and described by Cal Twomey as a talented and skilfull prospect in the below article.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/735813/why-essendon-could-miss-out-on-exciting-next-gen-talent-anthony-munkara

We would have to hope a bid falls outside of pick 40 otherwise he will go the way of Mac Andrew and straight to the club that selects him.

Haven't been able to find out too much more on him except that he's 181cm tall. Looks like he predominantly plays as a defender.

Not being able to pick a player inside the top 40 is one of the more ridiculous drafting rules they brought in.

I can kind of understand the top 20 to an extent, but there is just no incentive to put any time or effort into the players if you lose access to them.

Was about to say exact same thing, top 20 is perfectly understandable (or first round), top 40 seems to be an attempt to destroy the acadamies

Agreed. Should have only been restricted to first round then perhaps heavier cost to match early in the second (more so than it is currently) with it scaling down as the draft progresses.

Meanwhile the Northern academies are untouched under the current system. Go figure.

personally i think the father/son and all academies priority picks should be changed

make all the club for academies be more responsible for development activities (monitored and measured)

scrap all point discounts (getting priority is enough of an incentive)

all clubs to get priority (f/s or academy) but at the full points value bid (i.e. no discounts)

limit the number of priority picks in any year to 1

maybe not allow for future points to be used for priority picks (not sure on this one) or set a maximum future points limit

Yeah agreed. Not sure why there should be any scaling for father son and academies?

You already have access to them, why also get it at a reduced cost than others would pay. Doesn't make sense.

Nothing at Greta other than a footy ground and a church. Apparently one of only seven footy grounds in Australia with no town attached.

Yeah you're probably right re scaling. I was more proposing removing discounts and more or less have the cost in line with the draft points system they have in place.

Oh yeah that's what I meant, just think I explained it incorrectly.

I meant the discount applied to the scaling points, not sure why you need it.

Nah it was me that explained myself poorly.

Early days for Finn but good start to the season. One to keep track of during the season.

We made a lot of our trades exploiting the points system. Don't think clubs would be willing accept round 2 and 3 bundled picks for 1st rounders without the point system.

i think you misunderstood

i was only saying stop the points discount, not the points system itself

hope that clarifies it

I say we draft him based on his name alone. It’s uber-Melbourne!

Bring on the double barrel names !!

Melbourne did manage to draft an NGA player last year in Andy Moniz-Wakefield who is showing a little bit at Casey but I feel the rule that prevents clubs from matching bids on their own NGAs up to pick #40 is unreasonable and prohibitive to the investment involved in the system. Hopefully, the AFL will see the light and reconsider the situation.

In the meantime, these are Rookie Me Central’s notes on Finn:-

Scouting Notes: 2022 NAB League Boys – Round 1

“#13 Finn Emile-Brennan

Playing out of the backline, Brennan provided plenty of spark with his aggressive ball use and confidence with ball in hand, taking on opponents and showing brilliant composure when under pressure. Emile-Brennan won some impressive ground level balls and spun out of tackles immediately, keeping his hands free to deliver to runners. The real highlight of Emile-Brennan’s game was some of his kicking, whilst some attempted long kicks went astray, his kicking at short-medium distances was superb, getting penetration on the ball to have it move quickly to his target, but having them delivered just softly enough so the kick wasn’t difficult to hold.”

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
