Not April 1 joke - not 100% sure if true though.

hatred goes a long way further back than 2000, I assure you

I think this day in 1990 was one of the greatest wins in my time.

If you never stepped inside Windy Hill, then you have no understanding of what it was like, and i am not having a go at you. Just telling the truth

My mum had her hair set on fire while in line for a beer at Windy Hill. She is 69 and it still haunts her

Apparently Brown is just a close contact

I'm surprised by the hate strongly negative attitude towards Essendon in this thread. There may be all sorts of reasons for it, but I wonder whether it all boils down to latent hostility following on from the result of the 2000 GF?

As I've said before, I don't dislike any team but subscribe to the view that I support Melbourne and any team playing Collingwood. I've always believed that other teams are our friends in battle with the true enemy (for want of another word) being the other winter codes.

You clearly didn't go to school with their feral supporters in the 1980s and 1990s. Apart from bandwagon Hawthorn supporters of that generation, they were clearly the most obnoxious supporters. My hatred of Essendon has been raging strongly for well over thirty years.

Big moment for Weideman if true.

Curious what people's 'pass' marks will be for him if he comes into the side. Personally, I don't think he needs to kick a bag of goals - he just needs to show that he is willing to compete and follow up with second efforts. Goals will come if he does this consistently.

Unfortunately though it seems that this is the one part of his game that he has been missing. Fingers crossed he can take that next step.

To quote one of my favourite movies:

Don’t rate Weideman at all and am perplexed how he jumped ahead of Mitch Brown in the queue, but hopefully tonight’s the night. Just needs to clunk an early one.

If Brown is out today (Friday) on Health and Safety Protocols does that rule him out for next Thursday’s match?

🤞hopefully not and it was picked up yesterday

He's also one of the coaches of our AFLW team, so hopefully it's not from one of our women's players who he's a close contact, they've got a big game tomorrow.

He's been ahead of Mitch Brown in the queue for years.

Oh I feel your pain.

Primary School in the 80's

St Bernard's in the 90's

I've now erased 2000 from my memory thanks to last year.

Having had to wear that jumper for Little League as I grew up 10 minutes from Windy Hill...makes my skin crawl thinking about it.

Being at that win @ Windy Hill  in 1990 was my childhood version of winning the premiership. I can still recall Darren Bennett taking the [censored] and lobbing goals from 50 over the back fence and out of the ground and Peter Landy's all time favourite call of "Heaver...Leave it to Heaver!"

For those outside of the North-West of Melbourne and can't comprehend what it was like, imagine 99% (there are a few supporters i know that are actually non-biased and can have a chat about footy with) of their supporters with the smugness of peak Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson and letting you know how [censored] your team was ...every....single...week.

Younger fan here, so I haven't seen much of Mitch Brown beyond games for the Dees. Does his style of play differ much from Weid's? I just wonder if there is something about the way he goes about his footy that Goody prefers him. Would be curious to know what kind of discussions are going on there.

My 'strongly negative attitudes' towards teams is often about their supporters and what they do/say/think, rather than the club itself.

Although in the case of Essendon, there is more than enough reason to hate the club. Same with Geelong.

The Weid simply has to fire tonight, he either has it or he doesn’t.
Tonight he is needed.

Would assume Weideman being named an emergency is because he can cover the forward role, ruck (has been training as relief ruck) and if a backman goes out TMac can go down back and Weid takes his spot.

I prefer Mitch as a forward and on form but Weid does cover multiple roles.

Hopefully Brown was a close contact before today so he can return for the Port game.... of course hoping he doesn't get Covid is the main priority.

Watching Mitch who knew when to lead and how to get in front - and out-reach every opponent taking significant marks whilst kicking very accurately at goal - who the hell is Weedinthecorner?

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
