Mick  Nolan - great back story. Played in a flag at North in a team of Champions.
Youngsters today (under 50) won’t know why he was called “Galloping Gasometer”

Great YouTube video of Mark McLure bouncing off Mick.
Reasonable footskills, hands and surprisingly,  endurance, for such a behemoth.

All round good guy from VIC bush, tragically taken young.

Has there ever been a greater nickname in footy BBO!

It was the perfect fit RTG.

There were actually Gasometers overlooking the ground in those days.

And .....if my shiraz addled brain is correct the nickname was coined by the late ( and great) Louey the lip!

Can we all just take a moment to enjoy the fact that Port, West Coast and ESSENDON are 0-3 at the bottom of the table?

i will sleep well tonight

Wasn’t gonna pay any mind to this but woke up this morning feeling like death and need to ask you nicely to not post statements about how we all got vaccinated for nothing. Yes, we can still get it/pass it on but I know that had I not been vaxxed I would in all likelihood be in hospital rn.
Defs not starting a battle here, but please think before you make this type of statement. 🙏

As long as I'm civil I'll post what I like thanks.

Civility is your only criterion? Sensitivity doesn’t get a guernsey? Cool. I need to take a break from DL anyways, so thank you for providing me with another (and deciding) reason, albeit unwittingly. đŸ‘đŸœ

Who keeps instructing players to TRIP.  It looks terrible and is quite dangerous and happens almost as much as pushing in the back..

Since you were off topic, I'll risk doing the same in the hope you can be influenced by actual data rather than whatever is behind your comments.  Have a look at this as a random example I found first up: https://aci.health.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/698388/20220104-COVID-19-Monitor.pdf

The data clearly shows that if you are unvaccinated you have a far far higher chance of being seriously ill, in hospital or in ICU.

Of course they could be lying to protect something or other.   Or just maybe ....

Where's the bit that states the vaccinated cannot get it, cannot pass it on, or cannot be locked down?

As the more ' experienced " members of demonland will clearly recall,  in the old days, ' Attempting to trip " was a reportable offence and players would be scrubbed out for doing it.

Nowadays, it gets the occasional free kick paid or not ( see Jayden Hunt V Gold Coast ) and never provokes a suspension.

umm,, perhaps because noone has said that .  Your clear implication was that vaccines are pointless.  The data shows that's wrong.  It was a vain hope that posting it would have any effect on your views, so I will desist from further replies and stay on topic. So,

I was vaguely hoping for a draw between Hawthorn and Carlton. But I wondered if late in the season I'd regret having at least 2 teams on points not divisable by 4.   Impossible to say at this stage I guess (and it didn't happen on the weekend).  But historically, have those 2 odd points ever caused grief or otherwise to us in our final ladder position?

Fork 'em ... There's a lot of love for WCW in this forum.

WCW ... hope you get well and soon. And come back when you're ready ... you'll be missed.

Nice try though Sue. Well said.

Speaking as a +65 year old with 3 doses of vaccine.

Still got it. Few if any symptoms. No hospital.

As the medical experts predicted.

Did i pass it on?. Maybe. But was happy to lockdown for 7 days to mimise risk to others.

Lining up for 4th shot in 4 weeks time.

Go Dees.

Feeling a bIt crook is better than spending 2-3 weeks in ICU

That is the crux of the vaccination

Feeling for you WCW our family of 5 picked up the virus on a flight back from the GC the other week. Not been a fun week!

To top it all off the government has been contacting me all week via the 5G chip they snuck into my arm when they vaccinated me!

Why, those blundering nincompoops. They were not supposed to start "influencing" the population until Phase III of Operation Total Compliance. We're just going to have to get ourselves a new government. Ms Chen, call Agent H on the red phone.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.
