That sure makes it confusing.

I'm pretty sure this bit:  You will no longer need to redeem a ticket via Ticketek  refers to last year when covid rules applied to ticketing and venue access.

As far as I can tell, a barcode (ie on an electronic ticket from Ticketek or MFC app for members) is needed to get into the MCG.  No paper ticket or plastic member card entry will be allowed.

Edit:  Don't know what happens for 'tickets' sold at the gate or if walk-up are allowed.

Crazy that they can’t put out a clear message. My understanding Is that GA members get a ticket/barcode sent to their phone via the MFC App

agree no paper/plastic can be used

all eligible members will be sent a barcode (reserved seat or not) to the mfc app 72 hours before each game

if those members without a reserved seat want a seat then they need to additionally go to ticketek - using the procedure luci outlined above

will be the same all year

(n.b. if you have a reserved seat membership then you don't need to go ticketek, and if not then you only need to go to ticketek as a member if you want to purchase a reserved seat at a mfc members price (i.e. select the right option as luci indicated))

Thank you!
I am a bit slow at times but this is a relief

if you go to the app now you will see all the tickets for this season, but without the barcode

for the next game it will also show a countdown clock for when the barcode can be expected

check it out

Just watched the latest training video with ANB on the mic.
It’s obvious the blue team is the firsts and the red is the seconds. So from what I saw, Harmes was in red. JJ, Sparrow and Hunt all in blue.
Both May and Salem featured prominently (in blue of course), so good sign they’re ready to go.
Did not see Hibbo in the video.

I saw this too.

It might have been that Harmes was in red for a period where they mixed things up, but then again I didn't see anyone else surprising in red.

Joel Smith was also in blue in that video, FWIW.

If you take the grand final 22 and bring two of Tomlinson, Smith and Hunt in for Petty and Rivers, I'm not sure who else comes in for Harmes (unless you count Jordon coming in from the sub position).

I can’t wait to be back at the G and cheering on the boys again.
If you can make it, be there. Never take for granted being able to watch the boys live. It can be taken away quickly and we just don’t know what Covid sh!tfight awaits us next.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the dogs will be hungrier than us for this one.

I don’t, and would be disappointed if that was the case.

I plan on having an early start at the boozer and then getting to the ground early.

I'll admit to being a bit of a luddite but I am having bad feelings about this barcode/ phone entry arrangement. Especially given it's round one and a big crowd is expected.

There could be a monumental [censored] up waiting to happen

Loved it back in day when your membership card was punched at the gate by an old boy wearing a vest and a tweed jacket. Bring it back.

Those tall green turnstiles only skinny people could get through

Clip the card for each round

For those with AFL Memberships there was an email earlier this week saying that the new ticketing system for AFL members where you sign in to the AFL app and scan the barcode at the gates to get in without a reserved seat will NOT be available for round 1 as they aren't sure the system is ready yet. Any AFL members attending round 1 MUST have a reserved seat and they gave us a barcode in the email to upgrade to a reserved seat for free (usually $9). You will be able to scan in to the AFL members area with the barcode on your phone from round 2 onwards.

Not sure what this means for club members or MCC members though.

Only four more sleeps.

Wish I could get there in person.

Can someone have a couple of pies and beers for me?

So excited

Yea. Wouldn't fit through one now.

Which boozer do you frequent pre game BBO?

Amazing... simply lost for words

This year, the AFL has changed the day on which the opening game of the season is played. Instead of starting with the traditional Richmond v Carlton fixture on a Thursday, the league has opted to instead play the grand final rematch between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs next Wednesday night.

The game would have otherwise been played on a Saturday or Sunday. By moving it to Wednesday, the league has created a stand-alone game. A senior Sportsbet source told The Age and Herald their company alone stood to make an extra million dollars in round one because the match would stand clear of weekend events such as other AFL games, rival sports and horse racing.

+ a practice game

4 times last year

Plane lands at 11am on Wednesday, straight to the accomodation and the very slow pub crawl will start from docklands into the MCG, 2 x Dee’s supporter and 2 x band wagon supporters from QLD coming down for the festivities!. Cannot wait for the game, scared how much merchandise I’ll buy before the game…….

I really really hope we get a great crowd. Just to witness the unfurling of the flag will give me goosebumps because we haven't been through it. I hope we are loud and when our premiership boys run out they hear the biggest cheer for them. I do not want to hear from media people or read oh melbourne supporters didn't show up. I'm sick of hearing that over the years.

I reckon the members will be pretty full and be rocking and I hope we have a nice easy win.

Similar plans for us BD, arrive just after 1030 and stow the bags in the hotel. I then have to take Mrs Right Foot Snap for Yum Cha then we can hit some traditional pubs on the way to the ground. We also have to detour to the Rebel in the city as my big order from the demon shop a month ago isn't going to make it in time. Dworship suggested the Arbory which looks really good, but we are going to save that for lunch on thur or Friday.  Any pub suggestions with like minded people would be be welcomed. Second time going to the G and very excited.

Brilliant mate, for multiple reasons over the years, this is the first time my old man and I will watch a game together at the MCG (marvel, Gabba, GC games).  Cannot wait

Yeah I’ll be going to that also, are you a golfer? Highly recommend the course, I’m playing St Andrews beach golf course on Friday.  Here’s hoping for 2-0 while we’re in attendance.

The Woofters will be breathing fire to this one, will cook them mentally if they lose

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
