I might have missed something obvious, but I didn't see Melksham last Saturday night for the Williamstown game - anyone know what his status was/is?

Christian Salem is firmly in the 426 category. It is his 2nd week with that outlook for return.

In fairness he was 6-8 a couple of weeks ago

I haven't seen anything mentioned. If he had been injured you would assumed he would have been mentioned in the injury list. It is possible that he had to pull out for health and safety protocols ie: might have been a close contact or non-confirmed close contact and as a precaution had to isolate and therefore pull out of the match.

He's been missing for quite a while now.....

Was an emergency for the GC game though, so not sure what is going on there

Injury & Suspension List: Round 5

Mitch Brown - Concussion Protocols | Available
Joel Smith - H & S Protocols | Available
Ben Brown - Suspension | 1 week
Michael Hibberd - Calf | 2 weeks
Daniel Turner - Foot | 3-5 weeks
Christian Salem - Knee | 4-6 weeks

So now Mitch Brown IS concussion ….. I wonder what caused that?  Nothing from the VFL judiciary? We’re there low flying seagulls, or maybe martians there?

Jake Lever reporting that he’s okay after rolling his ankle (twice) on Saturday night. As long as he looks after it, he should be right to go next week with the 8 day break.

Some concerns however, at Casey level. Blake Howes not selected and the rumour is Blake Howes (“stress fracture”?).

Majak Daw kicked 2 goals before coming off the ground and failing to re-appear. This is a concern because he’s really our only proper back up ruckman in the event of injury to our two ruck talls in the ones.

Commentator on the afl site also mentioned that Dunstan was off getting his leg iced late in the game.

Losing Daw early just two weeks after Mitch Brown was felled behind play is a concern, especially after the manhandling of Ben Brown last week.

Do any Casey watchers know what Daw's injury was?

The Melbourne website has an article here which states -

“Majak Daw looked to be continuing his form following a best on ground display last week, kicking two first quarter goals, both from free kicks.

“But his day was cut short after quarter time, meaning the Demons had to adapt to overcome the spirited Lions”.

No explanation as to why his day was “cut short”.

Looks like he will miss a decent chunk of the season, unlucky for the young fella.

Was gonna say that's quite an abrupt ending to that phase of the article.

I may be labelled a conspiracy theorist, but Daw and M Brown's "mystery injuries" rate no comment from VFL.  Nothing really changed since the old VFA thuggery days.

None of us know why Daw had to go off so it's a bit premature to assume it was due to anything untoward.

It would be nice to find out the reason he was unable to return after quarter time.

Dr Laura Lallenec, the club doctor has reported on the weekend’s injuries and there’s nothing in her report about Daw.

However, Blake Howes has undergone surgery for a navicular stress fracture. Unfortunately, this type of injury can be season ending.

Injury List: Round 6

Michael Hibberd - Calf | 1 week
Daniel Turner - Foot | 3-4 weeks
Christian Salem - Knee | 4-5 weeks
Blake Howes - Foot | TBC

I wonder if the injury to Howes is enough for him to be put him on the long term injury list?

There’s talk of a few young talented players emerging in the ranks who could be worth looking at in the mid season draft. We would probably have the last pick but it might be worthwhile exploring whether there’s a player out there to fit our needs eg. a genuine young ruck prospect to nurture for the day when Max retires or if Luke Jackson gets homesick.

Cards just an example of the BS that injury reports are. I take them all with a large grain of salt. When I see a player selected to play I know that it is 95% correct.

Read @Webbercomments re injury reports/management (we’re lucky to have his input)… every person/injury/outcome is different, just roll with it bro.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
