Don't like the sound of Lever's foot. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a 10-12 week injury.

He was running and kicking in Monday’s training gallery on the website. If it was that bad, he wouldn’t be weight bearing, let alone running. Reckon another week or two sounds right.

I would almost prefer hearing them say, we hope Jake will be fine in a couple of weeks but we won’t be considering him for selection for at least 4 weeks to play things conservative.

Just rule him out for a while and then if he gets back sooner it’s better.

Wow no Lever on the list.

Maybe the whispers about Levers foot were a bit premature.

Getting the Big guns back and Salo will be back by Round 10, glad I am not a selector.!!!

Realistically as sad as it is for Salo to be on the sidelines rounds 12-15 is when we need him back for and firing. It’s been a great effort from our backs to play so well so far. With some key troops back over the next three weeks in Lever, Petty and eventually Hibbo (who may struggle to get back in if Smith, Hunt and Tomlinson keep improving) we’re in pretty good shape. Let’s keep the rest healthy and keep winning!

That's the key keep winning gives you options to rest players, ensure little niggles don't become big ones, give the players time to recover from injury with no pressure.  Beat Port this week, 0 and 4 is a long way back for them.

Available is not specific enough for me.

Available..............in 4--6.

MitchBrown is a listed player yet no mention of concussion or concussion protocols.

No injury listed to JVR causing his withdrawal from the Casey game 🤔

Mitch Brown wasn't hit in the head when collected. It seemed like he was blindsided by a bump, and initially it looked like he was winded. It may be a rib injury of some sort.

Christian Salem is firmly in the 426 category. It is his 2nd week with that outlook for return.

at least Hibberd has gone from 2-3 to 2

Probably because it's a long weekend

They won’t rush Hibbo or Salem don’t need them back until they are 100% fit.!!

Injury & Suspension List: Round 5

Mitch Brown - Concussion Protocols | Available
Joel Smith - H & S Protocols | Available
Ben Brown - Suspension | 1 week
Michael Hibberd - Calf | 2 weeks
Daniel Turner - Foot | 3-5 weeks
Christian Salem - Knee | 4-6 weeks

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
