Eagles literally entering the lion’s den this week. It’s no good at all, a lot of talkback on radio suggesting this game should be postponed, but rules are rules i guess. Only 22 AFL listed players available, ouch.

I feel for WC, but then again, most of this comes down to the policy of the WA government.

Covid was always going to hit them hard eventually.

Health and safety protocols is a good name for a pub.

Would do good business too given people are always entering it.

Reminds me of that band who called themselves "Free Beer".

Licensed venues were most reluctant to book them.

I love how Whately has said that the Freos position is compromised due to 6 players out with COVID and playing the bottom team whilst he was completely mute on our position entering the Hawthorn game.

In fact nobody has really acknowledged what we were able to do. All I have heard is we look a bit off. FFS.

No one cared last week.

I'm also surprised* that there has been little discussion about players returning from Covid and how they play in their first match afterwards. For example, last week Viney looked fine but Lever looked out of sorts. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we don't return all the five who missed last week in one go.

*I'm not really surprised. We're talking about footy journalists, after all.

Some discussion that this just isn’t fair and games should be postponed.
Well, postponed games need to be made up - weren’t we screwed in 2020 when our game v EssUndone was postponed and we eventually had to play 3 in a week, which is also grossly unfair.

I know they won't but it would be great if they postponed Brisbane's game this weekend and made them play it in their bye week - round 14.

Then they'll be completely gassed by our round 23 meeting after 14 straight weeks of footy. Much like our fate in 2020.

(If you can't tell I see Brisbane as our major threat and concerned that this is the year they finally taste success after a few misses)

Their only real challenge so far this season was against the Cats and they failed. No doubt they’ll pump West Coast as they excel at thumping weaker opposition.

Edit : they beat the Swans which was a decent win, but the cats had a few out and to me that loss spoke volumes.

The Freo COVID situation is just another example of them obsessively copying everything we do. First the game plan, and now a quarter of the side has COVID?

If they rename themselves the Purple Narrm I’ll lose it.

The West Coast situation is getting blown out of proportion. Their primary issue is injuries. 8 players are out with covid but some of them are on the injury list so the impact of covid on WC this week is similar to the demons last week

Correct I did not see anyone suggesting our game should be postponed.

I have a little sympathy for WCE as covid is not of their making but not a lot.

Absences for iso reasons is looking like a smoke screen for other issues.

  • Injury management.
  • Overweight players
  • Adequatcy of pre sesason work.
  • They have rarely missed finals so do they have the grit to dig deep and play when each game is a drudge?
  • Are some injuries and players being re-injured because their rehab effort hasn't been up to standard, rushed back too early or both?
  • Inadequate game plan.

We will never know but WCE could easily be bottom 4 even if they never had a single case of covid iso.

I'm beginning to realise why my band 'Salmonella Outbreak' never got many gigs!

Brisbane's win over Sydney was an excellent performance and silenced their critics who claimed that they can't win the big games away from the GABBA.

If you're 40 points up on the Swans at the SCG, you're got something going for you.

Players didn't break any rules being out partying but not the smartest move. simpson-furious-over-eagles-players-partying-at-leederville-nightclub  knowing their club is in dire straits.

Nelson played Friday night, parties at nightclub Saturday, trains this week and goes into iso along with other players.  It doesn't mean Nelson passed it on to teammates but as I said not the smartest move.

The article also says Richmond players: Nathan Broad, Dion Prestia, Liam Baker, Ivan Soldo and co-captain Dylan Grimes were at the same venue.

According to the AFL website, Prestia and Vlaustuin will miss this week through illness, "...(Tigers) say they are not in the AFL's health and safety protocols?"

Prestia ought to cop a bit of heat for heading out on the town given he was under an injury cloud.

I thought there was a strict no drinking/going out policy if you're injured.

Is that a club or AFL policy??

Their injury list pre-round 1 had the writing on the wall. Even without covid they were in for a long season.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
