I live 500m from the GMHBA ground and never attend. Elitist club the Cats and any semblance of a reserved seat is $70 upwards. Many locals can't afford this. The crowd beahviour is appalling also. 

They NEVER fill the stadium because of this. Despite all the new Grandstands. One of which faces straight into the afternoon sun.

The upside this year though is instead of Us being scared of who we play twice, you can bet all other team fans will be looking at how many times they play the Dees instead.

Brisbane at the GABBA is a tough way to end the year.

We don't play at the MCG for five game in a row which is bizzare.

Double ups against Dogs, Port, Brisbane, Collingwood and Freo.

Geelong at Geelong.

Lots of prime time early.

Q'bday away game despite technically Collingwood hosting the last proper one in 2019.

 

The upside of these games (in bold above) is that we can make them 8 point games and put some serious daylight between them and us.

Our crowds - we can just about lock in 9 of 10 MCG home crowds over 30k I reckon if the GWS turn out is good. And there's got to be a strong chance we can go 6 of 10 over 40k given they are all against Vic teams and some big drawing ones at that.

Most years our MCG crowds probably produce very little revenue apart from the blockbusters. This year we've got a chance to bank really good cheques in almost all games and then know we've got the 2 big blockbusters to come in 2023.

How is that commercially great? 30K at the G is where you break even - probably even more now given COVID. Prime time is only good for our sponsors - we don't get any added revenue unless 1) we have sponsorship agreements which taken this into account (doubtful) or 2) we show up at the gate and with what others have already said already the number of interstates teams we have as home games will reduce the potential crowd in attendance and hence, revenue will be less than what should have been for the premiership side. 

I'm not complaining about the difficulty of the draw. It should be the most difficult IMO - in terms of the teams we play - as we are the number 1 team.

if we played a team who didn’t play finals R1, be a big chance we get rolled due to their longer pre-season.

Cant help but feel we got a really bad draw this year.

We have 6 in the first 9 weeks. I count Saturday night as Prime time. And the Optus game is prime time in Melb. given time delay across the nullabor

If I want to roll in negative sludge, this forum never fails to disappoint. If we are good enough (and we are), we will beat any team anywhere. And who really cares whether other teams get more night games or less interstate trips or less 5 and/or 6 day breaks when, on the last Saturday in September 2022, Max and Goody will once again raise the cup for us. Personally I'm stoked that we have ten of our first 14 games at the MCG. So by round 15, I will have a pretty good idea whether to stay in Melbourne or leave town to look after my dozen or so ski chalets.

I'm pretty sure the stadium deals were reworked to be much better for clubs but if we break even in all games - assuming the Freo one gets to 25k or so - then that's a big step forward compared with routinely losing money. Then there's significant opportunities in many of the other games, the Dogs, Hawks and Bombers should all be big. Ok, they don't make mega bucks like 70k+ does but 50k crowds are big earners. Given the significant limitations of not hosting ANZAC and QB'day I think it's about the best we can do for crowds. The only change would be maybe moving the Carlton game earlier in the season but the trade off there is you move a low drawing game later. 4 of 10 MCG games v interstate sides matches with the reality that 8 of 17 of our opponents are interstate. Syd and Brisbane as part of the 4 is a big result commercially compared with say Gold Coast and Port (at the G).

If the sponsorship deals aren't linked to prime time exposure then someone is doing something wrong. It's TV time, photos in the paper, social media reach. The first game of the season alone is worth a truckload in exposure. Worst case scenario if we're locked in to contracts without significant performance bonuses we can negotiate better deals with whoever comes on board next and can always sign up a lot more lower tier sponsors. 

Zurich extended in June last year. I'm sure Pert and co would've made sure they weren't getting the deal they got for previous seasons for 2022. I'm not sure if Jaguar are on board for next year yet but whoever is the 2nd major sponsor is getting a huge amount of exposure.

GC could be a potential banana skin if we’re not fully switched on. The few games they win each year tend to be very early in the season.

I saw a couple of highlights of a recent Victory game played down at Kardinia Park and it looked like they had demolished the city end to make room for another new stand. If this is the case then it’s a bizarre decision to have any Melbourne based teams play down there next year.

The Hawk supporters don't show up unless they are Premiership contenders and that's not likely.

Most are really fair weather fans...they only have a few rusted on's and I reckon I know most of them.

I still think we will make revenue from gate receipts but you have to look at our draw and say that the AFL didn't give us the well deserved opportunity to maximize this revenue stream. Perhaps its a compromise given the commercial arrangements in place with NT - who knows. Then there is the white elephant in COVID and restrictions/lockdowns that will loom over 2022. 

On Sponsorships - i doubt they would be setup that way. Usually you will setup tiered sponsor packages that will entitle the sponsor to things like Guernsey sponsor placements, access to AFL players etc for a specified cost. I'm not in the business of marketing so dont hold me to it but what you explained is more or less a performance based contract, where the contracting entity is willing to payout incentives for services rendered.
