Really why talk about Amiss ? We were never able to get him early in the draft and have done a mighty job getting Van Rooyen.

The guy we were really after was apparently Gibcus who's making a reasonable start with the Tigers.

Gibcus was always touted as a top 10 pick not really sure how that works

@Storma and Wizjust joined to make that post about JVR debut this week

This suggests he knows or he is a troll.  If the latter he will have shot his cred on DL for quite a while.

I suspect the former so lets not dismiss it too quickly.

Or its young Jacob himself just putting it out there :)

I was disappointed he didn't play on the weekend was keen to see if he could carry on from the game against Sandy in which he did show some promise

Personally think he will make a good player given time - seems to understand the game well, is already physical, can mark and is looks like a pretty accurate kick

Fortunately we are no longer a team that needs to rush fist year players into the team and I hope he is allowed to settle and build confidence - he will be picked when he is ready - I would be very surprised if that's anytime in the first half of this season (absent covid issues or injury restricting others availability)

same was said about Howes last week - someone taking the pi$$

In the VFL game against Sandy, JVR was cramping really badly towards the end of the game. Hopefully it was just cramp, and he didn't miss the game against the Bombers through injury.

I'd be shocked if he played this week.

I'd be amazed if JVR came into the side to replace TMac (assuming BBB doesn't get up for the game). If BBB does get up I'd say it's likely he will come in at TMac's expense (After Friday night's game Sam Wiedeman surely can't be dropped. If nothing else, it would severely undermine his confidence). Maybe JVR is being held over as cover for Thursday as an emergency, although I would have thought he could have played a half assuming he isn't actually injured (I can't find anything one way or the other as to why he didn't play for Casey on Saturday).

Agree, whether you think Weideman played a great game or just a serviceable game he did what was asked of him, dropping him after one game in and what he's been through to get here couldn't help his confidence. I think T-mac needs to take one for the team here. I know he's still working his tail off when he doesn't have the ball but Brown needs to come in.

Dropping Weideman after one game, where he performed, sends a bad message to the list. Hunt went down, Bowey came in, rest is history. You can't say to the blokes on the fringe, be patient, stay keen, your moment will come. And when it does, we'll then discard you for our favourite player.

The depth we have in part comes from the (so-far) fact that when your moment comes, if you perform, you keep playing. And players who don't perform (eg Brown mid-last year) will create opportunities for others. We can't dilute the strength by playing favourites.

Tough selection dilemma, but it's the kind of problem we could only have dreamed of in years past.

True MR we have seen players come in earlier than expected Jackson, Pickett, Rivers, JJ, Sparrow and Bowey and become household names, when JVR, Howes and Laurie get their chance someone will have to make way for them. It is a tough gig.!!

The way things are going there is only one bloke that's guaranteed a GF(God willing) spot.

That's the first I have heard that.

Who is your source.?

I am very happy with JVR and don't believe he is in line for selection vs Port on Thursday night.

What other tips  etc have "Storm and Wiz" given us of any reliability.

Sorry sounds about as credible as Mrs Havershams cats having a mid morning milk sip meeting.

We don't need to do a "Jack Watts debut any time soon" so get your gear ready BBB and kicking boots on.

T Mac medi sub ?

Some have earned immediate spots others have had to work and on both cases it's all made proper sense.

JVR does not need a distraction to his development at this stage. Let him be at Casey unless Covid rears it's ugly head.

I assume you mean on Thursday nights Q+A? What's the topic? Growing up with a Dutch surname?

Unless of course you are talking about one of the top 5-10 in the team who are automatic ins after missing a game.

A Lever, Petracca, etc, are automatic selections at this point and I think the list understand that.

The beauty with our list atm, is we seem to have replacements available who can do a reasonable job filling in. Then because of good drafting, our talent pool is increasing. Other than maybe in the ruck, we have adequate depth in nearly all positions.

Jacob van Rooyen has all the raw tools to be a gun key forward. He's a physically dominant, athletic beast and seems to have the right attitude. I suspect he needs to work on his gas tank and that's to be expected. No need to rush him, he will play when he's ready.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
