We played one game this season where our total physical output was 15% more than any other game.  Can anyone guess which game it was? Source is Burgo's podcasts.

I would guess Prelim vs Geelong but only a guess.

Such a fantastic podcast. In disappointment terms, Burgo's departure ranks a close second to Jurrah and ahead of Jako for me. I'm not sure that everyone really appreciates what we've lost - one of those blokes bagged us a flag. And sports science isn't going to go away anytime soon. To stay ahead, our club needs to recruit the best in the business from the worldwide pool.

What is "physical output" a measure of?

You would need to ask Burgo.  I would assume they measure total energy for the game for every player using the GPS and efforts etc but don’t really know.

Does anyone have a calorific indicator?🤣

Felt like we outnumbered the Tigers in that game and had an extra couple of players on the ground so I'll go with that one

In multiple choice, always pick C.

That's brilliant @Watson11 - my hypothesis was correct :)

Salem and May’s bone crunching hits in the first were pretty big. And they definitely made a point of roughing up MaCrae in the first.

I'm going with the after party. Anyone carrying Max around is working harder than my iPad after midnight.

For those interested, the podcast where Burgo spoke about our output was this one https://brukieandburgo.podbean.com/e/series-2-episode-2-matthew-innes/

Matthew Innes is head of high performance at the Bulldogs, and it was not the most interesting podcast.  Innes spoke about the finals and the travel and quarantine the dogs dealt with etc.  Burgo slipped in the conversation that Round 20 against Gold Coast, despite spending the entire previous day sitting on a plane etc, then having the game scheduled early the following day the MFC players performance was off the charts and 15% higher than any other game this year. It was also the week after the wet slog against the dogs.

You have to feel sorry for gold coast considering our performance after that game.

I said before that the GC game was a watershed game for us. We played our best footy for the season after that.

Fascinating that they could do that under the circumstances of the previous 24 hours and play that way WITHOUT a crowd

It really turns every piece of preparation upside down!!

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
