We can all speculate, but he clearly hasn't decided.

I think a flag this year would probably tilt his thinking towards staying, but only signing on for another 2 years.

Or....

A second premiership medal might get him thinking he has achieved the ultimate success... twice!

What more is there to achieve that potentially can't also happen at Freo?

If we go B2B I would wish him well and thank him for his contribution towards our success

So what sort of compensation can the dockers give us given their position on the ladder.

If they play in an elimination final and lose, it will be either pick 11 or 12. Semi final loss = pick 13 or 14. Prelim loss = pick 15 or 16.

Wherever it falls will also be pushed back at least 1 spot because of the Lions f/a access to Ashcroft who is tipped to go #1. Kangas might get a compensation pick but that remains to be seen, both if they get it and where it will fall in the draft order.

Summation. Nothing that comes close to Jackson's value.

Edit: this is all prior to trading for other picks/players/futures etc...

1st round pick around 14 plus perhaps what they get for Lobb (early 2nd rounder?) Would like Meek in the deal too

Some will scream that it's not enough. It'll never be enough. But that's what is realistic given what they have.

I'd actually ask for their future 1st rather than this year's. Take the gamble Freo might slide in 2023

I actually don't mind this, could do a hell of a lot worse.

Freo's future 1st would give access to 2 x first rounders next year to use or trade. Not sure who has our 1st this year. Sydney or North?

Better still would be Freo's 2022 first and their 2023 first plus Meek

Edit. Having said that, I'd much prefer Dogga re-sign for 2 or more!

This is pretty close. Wonder if we could go 22 first, 23 first and meek for jacko and 22 or 23 2nd

That's it, just a bit more potential bargaining power. I believe it may be North but not sure.

If...if Brisbane get knocked out finals W1 and Freo make it thorough to prelim, we could perhaps do some swapping with Brisbane

They need points for Ashcroft

Melb get Brisbane's pick 10 plus Freo future 1st (or what they get for Lobb) plus Meek

Brisbane get freo 1st (15) plus Melb 2nd (36)

Freo get Dogga for 7 years

We will get both their current and future first rounders at a minimum or whatever variation of that pops up after all the trades are done. We may end up sending a 2nd rounder back but no way freo gets away with a mid to late first rounder + steak knives.

It's not enough.

What's realistic is that they'll be trading for picks to satisfy us. Otherwise they don't get Jackson.

Probably one of the better suggestions, is to get Jacko a Melbourne girlfriend, who wants to stay here close to her family.

Love should be stronger than money or homesickness.

Jackson may not have told the club or his teammates, but I reckon his manager has given the club an inkling of his intentions to leave.

I mentioned Freo 1st + what they get for Lobb (around 20-22 maybe) + Meek, thats more than steak knives

Regardless, I trust the club to get a good result and for Taylor and Lamb to weave their magic. Never did i have that faith during the dark times!

Indeed

As Madonna once said:

Fair, steak knives is probably not the correct term.

Regardless we are getting minimum 2 first rounders.

Life must be something more than dilettante speculation. Then I remember I’m on ‘Land.

(If) an in-principle agreement has been made between our club and the destination club for LJ's services then a fair bit of wriggle room has to be factored in as well

For instance, a month or so ago a number of people here were suggesting that we should take what we can get for LJ  ... but now those types have gone quiet and the new thinking is that any sort of trade value heading our way probably won't be enough

LJ's stocks are rising by the week and that's good for us.  Gawn's excellent game forward on Friday can mean that LJ continues on as the main ruckman and there's no reason that he can't excel as the main man

We all really need to work on this.

Jackson’s ruck work was superb the other night. The way he then hits the ground like a cat adds something special to our team. Huge loss if he goes. I didn’t think it was until Friday night

Those that do not rate LJ are extremely naive and foolish.
He is fully dialed in to win a 2nd Premiership Medal, before anything is signed.

There is genuine love and respect both ways between Luke and the MFC. If he goes home, it is purely family reasons

I actually think it will have the opposite effect. If he leaves winning 2 flags, what more could he give to the MFC. He may feel like he has unfinished business with us if we don’t win it.

If I had a choice, I’d rather he leave after winning his second flag, than if he stayed and we didn’t.

Agree, I’ve been saying this for a while. The more success you have, the easier it is to leave.

Like you said, what more can you offer?

To add to this:

13 disposals at 92% efficiency

8 contested possessions

1 goal, 9 score involvements

5 tackles

4 clearances and 4 I50s

It was some sort of game

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
