There would not be a more unlucky player in the land than South Australian Aaron Nietschke who was delisted today after three seasons at the club. Drafted at number 53 in the 2018 National Draft, he suffered an ACL early in 2019 after playing just six games in the VFL with the Casey Demons. More setbacks were to come with two further ACL injuries in the following two years, the last one coming early in the preseason just as he was starting to show some good signs in practice matches. It would have been a tough assignment for him to have broken into such a strong team and it’s unfortunate that he leaves the club with little to show but some scars on his knees. Hopefully, he finds a niche wherever he goes next and it’s fair to say we’ll all have our fingers crossed that he stays healthy in the years to come.

The words unfortunate does not describe what this young man has gone thru but he will always be able to say he was at the Melbourne Football Club when they became premiers in 2021.

This young man never got to show his football skills unlike his contemporaries in James Jordan and Tom Sparrow who now have a premiership medal to prove they were a part of the 23 players in the premiership team.

The friendship he made will remain for the rest of his life because he was part of the squad of 2021 that made the premiership possible.

Nietzsche also famously said,  "That which does not kill us makes us stronger."  Given the injury trials he has had to overcome, I hope Aaron can take something from that expression, too.

Jack I don't think he played a game with Casey.  His first ACL was in February 2019 and I think I'm right in saying his only outing was against the Richmond 2nds this year at Casey where he played less than a half.

I watched him at training a fair bit in PS 2020 and he looked good.  He had a bit of the Ed Langdon's about him with his running ability but his disposal was iffy.  He found the ball easily and held his own in match sims.

Very disappointing for the lad and I wish him all the best.

Thanks Bob - based that on a report on him. He was going ok in that game against Richmond seconds till he injured his knee. Shocking luck.

I’m feeling a little ashamed - that what I’ve gleaned from that article is that the MFC is somewhat to blame.

That is a very admirable thought but really quite ridiculous.

Unfortunately Aaron is one of the unluckiest footballers to play the game. You should have more knowledge and sense than to feel guilty.

It is hoped Aaron you can again beat this further setback and play footy for Central District. It is again plain bad luck

His body is unfortunately not up to the rigours of playing Aussie rules. Feel for Aaron, as he obviously has the desire and drive, body just lets him down.

It's somewhat sadly ironic that it was his uncle* Frederick Nietszche that coined the expression (paraphrasing) "that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger".

I hope these setbacks make him stronger for whatever else he chooses to do in his life.

*not really, the bit about being his uncle.
