That will be double because I will be hoping the storm can knock of manly tonight to.

Good luck to all the players, coaches and officials of MFC and good luck to all us supporters on here who have stuck fat through all the hard times. Our time is now, Geelongs is finishing. GO OUT AND DO IT DEMONS!!!!!!

Judging by social media posts this week if we somehow beat the Dees there is going to be a whole lot of salt in the air, its unbelievable how much we are hated.

In case Geelong supporters are reading this, let me explain:

Most other supporters dislike your club for two reasons. You have been very successful, which for most clubs makes us envious. But more than anything, as a club, from the coach to the fans, you are supremely arrogant, like no other club I've ever seen.

A few snippets from the GFC bigfooty match preview:

With geelong showing at the selection table they have no intent of moving tge ball on quickly we are now look foward to next season bar some massive choke from melbourne.

I notice watching replays of last weeks game against GWS just how many times Cats players sidestepped and sold candy, particularly in D50. Not just Bews either. Selwood, Tuohy, Duncan. Happened so much I feel it must be an instruction. A simple action like that gains you at least 20 extra meters and an element of surprise for defensive structures oppositions set up ahead of the ball coming out of our D50.

Dees will smash us in the ruck and will smash us in the middle...:(

Most of their comments are not about tonight's match itself, but about next season and rebuilding. They've given up already!

Don't care about the cats to know if they were doing this more last week than ever before. But they were playing against one or the most inexperienced forward lines probably ever exposed to a semi final. This week they are against the best f50 pressure team in the comp. They do too much of that thus week expect lots of repeat entries from our boys and shots at goal from HTB decisions.

After a very restless night, it's now going to be a very long day.

I've never felt like this in the lead up to a big game before. The favourite tag is not a comfortable fit.  It is one however I'd love to get used to.

Having to present a 15 slide powerpoint for a job interview on the same day as Melbourne prelim final.  Argh

in case we lose and everyone returns to hating each other… let me just say i love you all. passionate, disagreeable and argumentative as some of u may be , you’re all part of my dee heart. It’s been a hard road to travel as a supporter and this morning I can feel how much we’re all in it together.

Our mental fortitude and ability to wrest momentum has been the most important development in this team this season. I’m confident we will perform tonight and handle anything the Cats throw at us.

I’m hoping that every WA Demon will be at the game. I hope you bring along as many of the locals as you can to barrack for us as well. I’m prepared to suspend my dislike of West Coast supporters if they are prepared to cheer us along (and boo the Cats) just for this 24 hours.

Low work productivity, high anxiety day coming up

I’m going with 5 eagles fans. All going for us. General feeling is that vast majority of neutrals over here will be supporting us tonight.

Nerves starting to kick in now. Lunch beers might be in order.

Go Dees!!!

My in laws and all my friends are firmly on the Melbourne bandwagon tonight, although they all barrack for other teams.

I literally don't know anyone who isn't a Geelong supporter who is going for Geelong. Does anyone like them other than their supporters?

What a difference a word-space makes 😳

I’ll be a regular visitor to this thread during the day, soaking up the love, optimism, nerves and tension.

I’m quietly confident that this evening, I’ll be bathing in the joy of the post match thread, well past my normal bedtime.

Best of luck Demonlanders!  ❤️ 💙

There's a third reason if you live in Geelong and don't follow the Cats.

The club has sucked millions out of any infrastructre programs diverting it through politics to the Kardinia Park re-build. Only now is Geelong getting a decent arts precinct coz the ground has pretty much been completed and don't have their hand out at the moment.

Try getting a decent seat at the ground for a game. Most Geelong fans can't afford it. Its capacity is still only 36,000 but its never been full.

Despite their image, it is an elitist club and facilities.

“Lightning won’t strike twice’

The last time we played at Optus we had to flee the ground for a lightning storm, then gave up a big lead to hang on against the Eagles.

No storm warnings tonight.  No chance for the old oppo list to get their breath back.  Lets get out to a lead and keep ourselves well out of reach.

I reckon they will kick 8-10 goals.  We will kick 12-16 goals.  Our margin will be at worst two goals, at best 8.

Go Dees!

Only ten and a half hours to go.

I see you're new to game day threads on Demonland.... I would avoid it once the game actually starts if you're looking for all of the above.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
