This is good for Weid. I kind of think the Suns would be good. Get to the warmth of the GC, beaches, hinterland, golf, surf etc. Out of the footy bubble of Mel. Less pressure (maybe).

They'll want some side dishes to go for pick 3.

What can North offer?

    I'd be keen for him to remain a dee but in reality if Ben Brown gets somewhere near his best and Tmac stays at his current level then he might struggle to get regular senior game time next year.

    I have lot of time for Sam. Seem a ripping young fella and i'd love for him to fulfill his potential, even at another club.

    I'd think Gold Coast would be a really good option for him. Hopefully a team on the rise, full of talented younger players. King takes the best defender and the spotlight. Some excellent kicks and they like quick ball movement and spotting up their leading forwards, which suits Weed as he is good on the lead.

    Not against him leaving if we get decent compensation. It would hurt our list age profile though, as all our key forwards are 28 or older (bar Jackson, who I consider a ruck not a forward). 

    We would need to replace him with another young key forward IMO.

    I'd really like Weid to get to a club that gives him regular games. 

    In my opinion, continuity will be his best chance at becoming a solid AFL player.

    From a MFC perspective, lose him and we are throwing all our eggs in one basket with T-Mac/B.Brown & M.Brown all in the latter stages of their careers.

    Just to add some weight to the Gold Coast first pick fantasy that is floating around in my head - do the Suns have any highly rated academy or otherwise pre-access players coming in this draft? The picks we have at the moment aren't exciting as far as draft order (both in the early 30s) but are kind of in the sweet spot for cashing in for points.

    This could be the start of a beautiful wildly complex multi-club trade.

    How would yo know that it would be good for him, how would you go packing up your life, leaving your loved ones behind to play in a side no one wants to stay at.

    I hope he has a point to prove, gets in an injury free pre season & proves us all wrong

    Weid has the potential to be a good player. 
    Perhaps the way the cards have fallen for him means that that won't be with us.

    Unfortunately, anyone thinking we will receive decent compensation in a trade will be sorely disappointed.

    I went fine packing up my life and loved ones moving 1800km north from Melbourne, but to a new job I liked. Which didn't pay upward of say 300k a year.

    Weed (even if he stays he's not going to destroy teams) 

    BB (looks to have lost some of his form and is pretty average when ball hits the deck) 

    Tmac (Can play a great game, however as he ages his consistency is dipping) 

    Not sure we have anyone else and I'm fearful the next few years about how we're going to fix this/where our solution will come from 

    I don't know who is out there we can get, otherwise we have to draft at least 2+ key forwards

    IMO 23/24 is still 'young' for a key position player. Some come on quick, some don't.

    How interested are North and Gold Coast?

    Does he want to go to clubs who are going to lose way more games than they win in the next few years?

    Things we know nothing about. His major flaw is he does not hold marks. I watched him at Werribee which I think was the seconds last game. He played up the ground, forward and ruck. He played well and I think kicked 3 goals. I took the binoculars so watched him all over the ground. Even when marking on his own he juggled most of his marks. After a number of years with a lot of senior games he just looks to be a VFL level talent which is a shame.  In the seniors you get way more close attention he will never be KPF who takes contested marks in the forward line. His best position is IMO the same role that Jackson plays. You cannot have two of those types in the same team. The FD seems to favour Jackson so barring injury he will probably see out this year at Casey. Which is good for me  when I go because he is valuable player at that level and I enjoy watch him. If he wants / needs a change of scenery then let him go for the best we can get.

    I'd say move him on. But we do need to keep an eye on the future.

    It's been summed up earlier that two of our talls (BBB and Tomald) are about to tick over thirty. I have nary an issue with playing blokes of this age forward. Our window is open, and we need to have as much experience in the team when it gets to the pointy end of the season.

    However, both probably have at most 3 to 4 years left. While I don't blame Neale for what happened in 2007 onwards, we don't want to get into a situation where the cupboard is bare on this front ala David Neitz retiring in 2008. 

    If we win a flag, I don't see us going on to create a dynasty ala Geelong, Hawthorn, Richmond. I believe we will encounter a slight speed bump, like Port did in '04, before potentially steadying the ship. Having that developing forward in the wings will guarantee the ship will be steadied sooner rather than later.

    I doubt any club sees him as a first rounder. Best you could hope for is an early second round. If your the club and  genuinely thought he was worth a first  rounder he would be signed back up by now.

    Agree, I would add that Petty is pretty young and in a few short games showed more up front than Weid has over a longer period (other than a one off Geelong finals game).

    I agree that Petty has had a couple of promising games up front but he's shown several times this year that he clearly plays his best football in the backline. We probably shouldn't move him to the forwardline unless our forwards are hampered by injuries.

    I think we have already got more value from him than the Weid.

Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide.       There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

      Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors.
