Luckiest side in the footy world.

I’m not sure how lucky it is when you consistently get the umpiring advantage. I just don’t get how this keeps happening. It’s an objective embarrassment.

Port must be licking their lips

The final block at the end summed it up.

2016 being repeated is a decent bet.

What happened to "putting the whistle away" in finals? You don't see that many [censored] free kicks pulled out of thin air in H&A!

Brisbane have every right to be seething over that. I've never seen a more blatant example of match fixing from umpires than tonight's game, and they got the result they wanted.

Gee that was as deliberate as you’d like, umps decided that one big time.

Great game.

We’ve got no hope if the Dogs beat Port.

And we play the AFLs love child

Was about to post the same thing.
Usually finals umpiring is better that the H&A.

Looking towards next week I’m a little nervous, the umpires two favourite teams in Bulldogs and Cats through to prelim, we’re going to have to make sure we’re 10 goals up in the last quarter. 😓

So a physically exhausted Bulldogs, minus Weightman and Bont vs Port. Could be one sided.

And Lions out in straight sets again - is that two years in a row?

Edited by monoccular

Felt for the Big Oscar Mac, he was one of their best and after 100 ruck contests he gets done for a block in the last centre bounce. How stiff!

Umpires [censored] the bed late.

That wasn't a mark to Bont, clearly second to the ball.

That shouldn't have been a free kick against McCarthy, jostling like that in the forward line happens all the time.

And was that really a block free kick against McInerney?

(meanwhile Zac Bailey might have ran too far for his goal at the end...)

Gotta get past their other love child next week 1st.

We can beat the opposition, but we can’t beat umpires. Hope doggies don’t get any further so we don’t have to cop the bad umps. 60+ more free kicks than the next closest team. It’s outright cheating and cannot be argued any other way.

The umpires handed them the momentum for their final goal and final point. Legit won them the match. Cheats.

Please don't use language like that

That was a great game of footy.

Same thing happened at almost every centre bounce. Was only called a free kick when the umps needed to help the Dogs over the line (and it proved the crucial point that got them home).

Great game despite the umpiring. Proper finals football. Lions and their supporters will be filthy

Meanwhile Brisbane over the last three years have finished top 4 three times for a 1-5 record in finals (all bar one of those finals have been at the Gabba) and two straight sets exits.

We can’t go on like this. Clubs need to get together and call this out. It’s blatant cheating and it’s ruining the game.

That was a decent final ....and then there was last night's match 😮

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
