I think there's appeal in going to Carlton with the opportunity to be part of turning the club around. Had we lost the flag I almost think we may have been a more attractive option, as he could've been part of the special team to break the drought.

He gets to try and forge his own path of success at Carlton, whereas he's walking into a ready made superstar team with us.

I don't think the pull of the reigning premiers tag is as strong as believed. Would love to have him though!

It's so lovely to be able to watch all the run arounds of trade week this year as teams fight to grab their 'missing piece[s]'. We don't have any! Any one who comes in is cream on top or depth!

You are kidding me right? Every player plays to win premierships. The list of players changing clubs to help facilitate a medallion around their necks goes on forever. Not saying we will get Cerra, however 90% of players would change clubs in order to win a premiership over filling their pockets.

We would have to move someone out. Only player I could possibly think of, that could get us maybe a late first or early second round pick is Harmes. Most likely a second round. We’d still need to move on a player aside from him, worthy of a top 15 pick. We simply don’t have any that I’d shift on for that, because then you’re talking Rivers, Fritsch, Bowey, potentially Jordan, and it all becomes too much for Cerra. The upside of getting Cerra would be to inject a player of his age and Ilk into our line up as a good immediate and long term move. But it’s only good in the long term if we aren’t giving up any of our future to get him.

We really are out this trade. We cannot possibly get it done. I suspect Cerra probably wants to come to the Dees, but has concerns on nominating, then being let down.

There's zero reason for him not to nominate Carlton now.

I think he wants to come to us but realised it's a longshot with the trade value, so is playing it cool and letting it unfold.

We'd need to pull off a Josh Mahoney special to make it happen, so hope the recruiting team had their notepads out when he was around.

there is no chance we'd aggressively pursue him if we didn't know how we'd get the deal done, so i've got no doubt we'll be able to get it over the line if he nominates us

How? NFI

I dont think anyone would be interested in moving away from the Dees at the moment. Cerra would be a great acquisition and there are number of player + trades that will get it done.

The one that is most logical would be one of Brayshaw / Rivers / Dogga given they are all WA boys. Brayshaw's immediate family is here (as is his GF and her family) so doubtful he would want to pick up and move. Rivers and Dogga however, may look to move back home purely given how COVID has displaced everybody here in VIC.

I would look at Rivers + 2nd round pick for Cerra only if he indicated that he wanted to go back home. Id do everything to keep Dogga - that kid is going to be a star.

No to Cerra for me but there will be others across the next few years as we are now a preferred destination team, thanks to this season and our performances across the Finals. At this point before next season, retain our 'purchasing power' with a future salary cap. Cerra ain't no Oliver, Petracca, Gawn, Dogga, Bowey, Brayshaw, Lever, May, Salem, Petty, Hunt, Tomlinson, Harmes, Smith (as a forward), Fritta, Kozzie, Sparrow, Rivers, JJ, Viney, Langdon or ANB, or the youthful others still developing at Casey.

Adam Cerra would be weighing up being a first string midfielder vs for us being second string/maybe playing wing/half back.

in terms of his career it's a pretty big deal

What does he want to do? Play midfield in a team absolutely going NOWHERE

Or play his role wherever that is in a team that is about to launch a Premiership dynasty?

Seems an easy one to answer!

I know this is a MFC forum so should expect bias, but people in here are seriously underrating Adam Cerra.

Seriously talented 21yo and should absolutely explode next year.

Also, players get what they want %95 of the time these days. As much as I hate how much power the players have in the trade period we might as well use this to our advantage for a change. If he if he nominates us it will most likely happen.

Same goes for any FA's that might pop up in the next few years. The system is rigged for the rich to get richer. We should abuse this like other clubs have in the past.

Much like we did to attract Level and May to our club, Carlton have offered Cerra hope, big $$'s and the chance to be an integral part of something special.  Can't blame the kid for going for it.  And realistically, I just can't see us trading a player out to get the picks required to satisfy Freo.

Great to see all the other Clubs running around chasing their tails looking begging kicking and back stabbing and big noting about how good a destination they would be.

Meanwhile back at the footy horcrux of the planet, MFC I'm wondering who is going to replace bloody Burgess

My understanding is that it will be Selwyn Griffith.

Cerra will be a fantastic player. But gee whizz carlton really need to start nailing their own picks before they improve. Constantly over paying in both picks and cap space for "proven" players will catch up to them.

You do wonder how much hope their list will have if they aren't making some serious impact in finals next year.

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. The dew has dried, out from AAMI, quiet chatting. Maysie does his heart symbol. 7 in rehab, Turner, Hore, Sestan, BBB, Petty, Spargo and Schache. All in runners. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
