We are out of the race for this guy as we have no valid picks and need the cap room for others.  Unless:

• someone wants out to Freo (we won’t be pushing any top 25 players out of the team, we are in the window now and culture is critical)
• he nominates us and comes on low dollars. Think we need cap space to manage our current list more than to throw at others.

even then, doubt we can make this happen.  Future first would be projected at 18, so that is not enough.  The best thing is our list looks good enough for now, so we can build the future in behind what we have rather than needing a type of player to fill a hole.  We can now avoid paying overs and chasing targets, instead they might just start wanting to come to us.

It’ll be a challenge but not impossible. 
Dangerfield nominated Geelong in 2015 and was traded for the Cats picks 9 and 28 and got Dean Gore who has since moved on after hardly striking a blow.

I’m not nominating any of our current listed players to form part of a package that bundled up with multiple draft picks over multiple years could amount to something of reasonable worth to the Dockers. 
But as with Crows, worth is calculated up front but value is only realised afterwards.

It wasn't a slim argument, I thought for some reason his whole family resided in WA. I've been corrected so my post is now irrelevant.

If he nominates us, we'll facilitate a trade. In past seasons where trading future picks weren't a thing, we'd have little to no way of executing other then giving up a quality young player or two. 

But we could make this happen with smart trading of picks and maybe we'll be giving up a weed or someone on the fringe to acquire more picks. There will always be clubs looking for bulk pick swaps for one high pick.

It can happen. 

And it's exciting. Perhaps I've got my dees cap on, but if I was Cerra I'd be concerned about what's gong on at the blues atm. They're a rabble. We're in the best position we've ever been in regards to being a destination club and it doesn't always last long. So in my view, if we're a sniff for landing him we should be going hard at it.

I watched Cerra in his draft year when I was doing some scouting and he is all class. His use and composure is something we've lacked and he's exactly what we're missing in that midfield mix. 

Also, hasn't had a break out year so his potential is still enormous and works in our favour as far as facilitating a trade goes.

I love you Dr, but it is always the throwaway argument for blokes in trade discussions and usually not given the same weight for players we wish to keep!

Melbourne have emerged as a potential second suitor for homesick Fremantle midfielder Adam Cerra.
It has been assumed that Carlton had the inside running on the Cerra trade after the 21-year-old told Fremantle just days after the completion of the 2021 home and away season that he wanted to be traded back to Victoria.
Sources close to Cerra believed the Blues had the draft collateral to get the trade done but have this week confirmed that Melbourne had also shown interest.
The Blues have pick six in the national draft which would become pick eight after the predicted early father-son bids for Nick Daicos (Collingwood) and Sam Darcy (Western Bulldogs) which are certain to be matched by those clubs.
The sticking point in trade talks is that the Dockers are likely to ask for something on top of that draft pick.

It is not clear how Melbourne could get the deal done on draft picks alone given they have no first-round pick in the draft and will not take their first selection until at least pick 36 once you factor in the two early father-son bids.
There is no indication at this point that the Demons would be willing to part ways with their Rising Star winner Luke Jackson who was recruited from WA and is contracted for another season.
The Demons also have Trent Rivers from Western Australia while Fremantle had shown a very keen interest in Kysaiah Pickett before the Demons scrambled up the draft order to get him in the first round at the 2019 national draft.
Rivers, 20, has played 32 games including all 23 so far this season and is expected to figure in Melbourne’s preliminary final team. He is contracted until 2023.
Pickett, also 20, has also played all 23 games this season and emerged as a genuine star of the AFL kicking 37 goals, is contracted until the end of 2022.
Meanwhile the Dockers are continuing their talks with small forward Lachie Schultz who has been strongly courted by Hawthorn.
It is understood Schultz appeared set to re-sign before Hawthorn upped their offer which is now believed to be for three years. Schultz can leave the Dockers as an unrestricted free agent if he chooses to join the Hawks.
The Dockers remain optimistic that the 23-year-old will stay. He kicked 22 goals from 20 games in 2021 for a total of 38 from 44 games over three seasons.

No new information in the article. I'd be shocked and upset if we can looked at trading one of Jackson, Rivers or Pickett. The article is pure speculation. The only situation I can see playing out is if a player said I want to go to WA.

It will be interesting to know if Cerra is waiting on the Blues coaching situation or if he is actually contemplating another club. 

Maybe he is waiting to see how serious club offers are before nominationg. But where there is smoke there is fire...Exciting times.

I think that he is talking hypothetical, that's his idea how it could be done.  It would shock me if the Dees even or ever considered trading any of the players mentioned.

I agree you wouldn't trade any of the named players.

We do have future picks and fringe players who may interest Freo.  It wouldn't be impossible to get a trade done IF Cerra nominated us, but there would be a lot of work to do to get it done.

My point was the article didn't tell us Cerra is interested in us, or any other team and that is the key information.

All depends on what the seller wants.

Even with no inside info, you'd think that Freo would interested in a promising young KPF If Cerra nominated us 

And Weid is also a top 10 pick who has had development.

a)  Weid is prepared to go to Freo.

Realistically its either one of:

1. Weid (or other fringe player) + future first
2. Future first + second (or future second)

The kid is good, but on present form i would say is equivalent or marginally better than someone like JJ or Rivers. Ill caveat it with that i havent watched too many Freo games, but from the media, its generally Brayshaw and Mundy that takes the plaudits from that midfield.

Much of Cerra's perceived value is weighted on the fact he was pick 5 a few years ago. I'd give up a 2nd rounder & our 2022 first rounder for him, but highly doubt Freo accepted when Carlton will offer more.

With that being said, if he does nominate Melbourne, their hand may be forced to accept a lower return?
