They had many umpiring decisions in that period help set up goals too. Every time the ball fell out of a pack it fell right in their hands. We were constantly wrong footed or slipping over. You get a few of them a year and they were able to capitalise on it because they’re good. They won’t do that again all finals and I doubt we will have that happen against us again this year. Even if it happened again they might kick four, but eight was nuts. I would think everyone has been on both ends of it playing sport at any level. Sometimes you get a golden run and sometimes you’re left standing there looking stupid thinking I’m not doing much wrong here. It's happened a few times this year, as it does. It happened against North for a large chunk of the first half, but they weren't good enough to make it stick. It happened against Adelaide for most of the game, but we didn't do ourselves any favours by playing from behind. Some bad luck at the death but it shouldn't have been that close. Collingwood, well, the day & the occasion were tailor-made for them. And it was one of the days where Buckley's game plan came off just right. They're not skilled enough to make it work consistently. If we ran up against them now we'd tear them to bits, but at that stage we were still learning how to be a top team. (Our education is nearly complete.) GWS & Hawthorn, just outcoached us on the day and we fell into their traps. We also played from behind against HFC. GWS will be a dangerous finals opponent. On the other hand, we finished top and not by accident. What a great feeling and to think it's at the end of the home & away season. Marching into finals with full wind in our sails. GO DEMONS!!!! Surely not rough considering the TIME and situation of the game! Umps have been lacking penalising the new mark rule and players holding the ball up and not giving it back quickly enough. I sobered if there was a report ( comment) on Jakes face whack of Selwood (I think it was) Not strong enough for fine but was his face after all. As an old science teacher if mine would have said "A love pat". Quote

Interesting that despite the rest of Oliver's match, he seems to have really struggled and cost us in this period. Maybe a little bit of immaturity and loss of focus on his part? Also interesting to note the long bombing, so as to isolate 1v1s and prevent interceptions, and that even when the ball was kicked to 2 or 3 forwards in a closer proximity, each forward blocked or held their opponent off for the other to impact. It's also clear we made some simple defensive errors. It shows how this can cost you against good opposition. Edited August 23, 2021 by A F 2 Quote

It's all about weight of evidence. we've been in EVERY SINGLE GAME (aside from Collingwood, which felt surprising, perhaps GWS) - > no other team plays like us or has the consistency of us. There is enough evidence to say, yep we are the real deal, and probably will be in the finals for the next 4-5 years barring injury other another version of an Act of God. 1 Quote

I posted this link about 10 hours ago!! On the subject of Viney, yes he played well, and yes he kicked a nice goal. But he missed a sitter at the start of the match ... set shot from 20 metres out. He is definitely best 22. Not convinced about Harmes. He ducked his head and dropped a marked I50 in the last qtr. Not a good look. Sparrow was OK. He'll keep his place. I wonder what the medical sub (Jordon) thought after the match. He didn't get a run. Mixed feelings during celebrations? Quote
