Why such cruelty?  Did Chunk run over your dog?

CONTRACTED DEMON OPEN TO MOVE

MELBOURNE forward Jake Melksham is open to moving to a third AFL club despite being contracted to the Demons for next year.

Melksham joined the Demons at the end of the 2015 season after being originally a top-10 draft pick at Essendon.

It is understood clubs are aware Melksham, who has played 12 games this season and is contracted at the Demons for 2022, would be open-minded about a switch after being squeezed out of Melbourne's first-choice forward line.

The 30-year-old most recently played in two of the Demons' final three games of the home and away season, kicking three goals across those games, but has not featured in its finals side.

That is understandable. Players want to play and others have gone past him and he is declining. It also could be part of the ammunition for a Cerra trade. TBH even if Hibbo plays in the GF, he could be tapped on the shoulder. He will be 32 in January. VDB will be another I would guess.

That is all part of keeping a list strong and also giving players late in their careers, their best chance of getting a contract and regular games somewhere.

The Dockers are said to have out of favour e Gold Coast midfielder Will Brodie on their radar as a possible replacement for Adam Cerra.

connor blakely and luke valente would be crying themselves to sleep right about now, cannot get a lookin to save themselves and brodie has rarely shown enough to be selected ahead of them but the suns r desperate to clear some list spaces (all 38 snr players r contracted) and the dockers do need mids

Brisbane ruckman Archie Smith is seeking a release from the Lions after struggling to get game time this season.

And a new suitor for Richmond’s Mabior Chol who could be set for a move up to the Gold Coast.

i can't be the only one who sees archie as being a reasonable investment for the dees? hes only 25, he's super athletic and u chuck the learn under gawn carrot in there and suddenly  you've got a 3yr reserve ruckman instead of maj (31yo and unreliable fitness) and with bradtke unable to even get a go in that position at vfl level. preuss 2.0 really.

i'd say the suns, dogs, crows, saints and pies will also want a chat but they don't have gawny

Feels like something's brewing, we look to be trying to free up coin

  • Jones retired (naturally that one was obvious). Jetta to follow?
  • McDonald re-signs (you'd assume at a significantly lower rate for years 2023/24 in order to smooth his money over and manage the books)
  • Melksham could be on the way out, still with a solid contract to run

Are we planning for long term offers for Jackson, Oliver, Pickett?

Is it Cerra or another existing player?

Hopefully all of the above

Hibberd coming to the end of his contract as well, may win a reduced 1 year extension.

Wouldn't be surprised if Brayshaw was extended for a few more years as well but at less of a premium than his 2018 year.

What this amounts to is anyone's guess. I suspect, like you've suggested, that they're making sure there's enough cash to satisfy Oliver as well as leaving decent pay rises for Jackson, Pickett and Rivers. I'm sure they'll leave some cash in reserve for a player in mind as well.

You missed Lever's renegotiated contract earlier in the year. Then there was Petracca's long term deal, which you would assume would be for less money in exchange for more years.

The club has been repositioning its TPP for 2022 all year.

Also AVB who was on significant money after we held off the Swans on his last contract.

Significant to you or me but not for the TPP.

That sounds like a chant…

Geelong are reportedly interested in Talia and someone on here said Melksham.

Its one way to reduce their age profile, I guess.  If they get them it looks like thy're going to have another shot at finals but again fall short.  The combo of Scott, an 'old' team and control football haven't worked in recent finals series so no reason to think that won't continue.

In his 'what if' column Purple has suggested that the Neale trade may be resuscitated late in the trade period.  And Tom Mitchell (just won the Hawks bnf) may be on the move.

A few months ago Mitchell flagged he would be open to a move, to a Vic club.

Great to be having the cap space made available these long-term offers.

I think you'll find it was what the Swans offered him and we had to match it to keep him. He was showing great form then and has never had a run at it since except that burst late in 2018 when he looked like a critical player.

My sources up here in Canberra say that is not what he is on. Take of that what you will.

Melbourne midfielder Angus Brayshaw laughs off the yet another trade link to Fremantle Dockers to join brother Andy

"Melbourne star Angus Brayshaw has dismissed speculation he could be part of a trade for Fremantle’s Adam Cerra, saying he has no interest in leaving the Demons."

Not sure if this has already been posted but it's from the West Australian and is behind a paywall

Maybe Hibbo and Melksham and Nev would fit the Geelong demographic, and they could pass us their top 2 picks for them. 🙄

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
