...and did it occur to anybody that Collins could bench press twice Viney's weight... so if he wanted him gone all he had to do was push him off?

You’re seriously trying to excuse Viney’s act???  I think it’s safe to say that if the roles were reversed, you’d be baying for Collins’ blood!

Sam Collins did not require any treatment at the time or ongoing as a result of the incident. He won't miss any training or matches as a result.

What does that say about the force???

So much for intent, hey. Would you prefer someone suffers a serious injury before anything is acted upon. Laughable!

Well if you look at my commentary on this thread, you'll know that i never condoned the elbow. i have maintained that this was unnecessary.

My view has been that on the acts so far this year that fall into this category (Selwood eye gouging, Mummy dropping knees, swinging elbows Hawkins / Franklin) have been let go with a fine.

We have been on the receiving end of too many 'lets make a stand' verdicts and in the spirit of fairness this should be let through. Also the media are glorifying this ridiculously asking for 3-4 weeks + .. Get a grip. Collins pulled him down - Viney has said the same. but no doubt will pay the price purely on the fact that his elbow was placed upon his neck with low-medium force.

It’s not cracked it’s all up to be, too many nerds hanging around.

It’s also not vetting applicants very well.

I need a thesaurus to keep up the Colin / Nev back and forth.

anyone knows who’s winning?

They’re both winners imo. I love a hearty, robust debate. And they both have a great command of the English language. Even @Demonstonewould be impressed. ?

Just in case people were looking for some facts. Selwood eye gouging If Viney gets weeks and this was in contrast let go, you tell my that doesn't make your blood boil?

All I ask for is consistency. Just like umpiring on game-day we are getting absolutely torched.

If you want to make a change to the rules for serious misconduct do it in the off season. The fact that it has gone straight to the tribunal, is an absolute setup by the AFL to allow them to side-step any precedent / decision matrix to make an example of yet another MFC player.

Meh.  :D

By the way, MENSA aren't all that bright.  They always get their NAMES mixed up.

2 matches? [censored] off.

2 matches is harsh for someone with a decent record. But we all know they make light work of players who aren’t big names.

"DON'T TRY ME"

Viney and Collins were clearly talking during the incident. Viney says Collins was challenging him to hit him, and Viney replied "don't try me".

Hard to argue against 2 weeks. To me it feels about right. I’d just take this 2 weeks to get his foot right, his kicking and decision making right. Back for Geelong if required.

Hey, this is Viney, remember the first person they absolutely flogged for a dangerous tackle, what was that 6 weeks.  Now people are getting off with a fine. Now the AFL wants to make another statement Viney will likely be made the scapegoat and get 4-6. They will spin bull about protecting the head, while they let anyone belt gawny in the head each time he goes for a mark.

Guilty plea withdrawn.

Apparently the guilty plea was in relation to a charge of serious misconduct, without admitting it was to the throat.

We don't agree the contact was to the throat, we say it was to his jaw.

This could backfire badly here....

Not really, if they find it was the throat then it’s 2 weeks.  If it’s the jaw then I’d say fine or a week

I think the fact that the victim was pinned down and unable to get up, is pretty indicative of the amount of force applied. There are absolutely no excuses that can be invented for Viney’s reprehensible act. Minimum of 2 weeks if he’s lucky.

Collins flipped Viney off him and got up as soon as he wanted. He was attempting to get Jack to do something (more) stupid.

Can't believe Anderson had him plead guilty to a 'serious misconduct' charge without knowing/checking the nature of the conduct.  It was clear at the start of the hearing it was about elbow contact and force to the throat and neck region.

He gets to the point of penalty the penny drops the charge is more serious than he thought, withdraws the guilty plea and tries to renegotiate the charge down to contact to the jaw.

Amateur hour by Anderson.

It’s been clarified that they only pleaded guilty to the serious misconduct charge and not the point of contact

I’m glad we’ve hidden the “Jack Viney made me cry” thread…

?

Go Jack, beat the rap!!

Well the only person who could clarify that is Collins.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
