Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Any chance we'll get told when were playing the Giants before next week? I assume it's Sunday arvo as Geel/Ess will be Fri night, Coll/stk also scheduled for the G likely to be Saturday I assume so we're left with Sunday arvo. Hope it's an earlier rather than later game tho

I'm tipping Saturday night as per my original post.

The broadcasters would rather have a top 8 side vs a possible top 8 side play in prime time rather than two bottom 6 clubs, despite Collingwood being involved.

Given Port Adelaide v Melbourne will most likely be the following Friday night (as it is clearly match of the round), the AFL wouldn't be so crude to give Melbourne a 5-day break before games, especially when it can be avoided by playing the previous week on the Saturday night.

I hope we find out soon. I'm heading down to Melbourne next week and wanting to know the GWS deets asap taking my daughter to the G so she realise Metricon is basically a glorified training facility

Surely now we know the capacity they can at least release next week's fixture? You would assume the SCG game will not go ahead at the SCG. But other than that, it's straight forward. GWS is already hubbing in Melbourne, they can stay an extra week for our game. Problem solved.

Well it would be nice to know when we play next weekend, given we can actually attend.

Really annoying they won't even give us 2 weeks notice, when you are trying to plan other things around the game.

I just don't think they can, for Syd fixtures/clubs, and maybe even Bris...

I disagree.

The AFL has a battle on in its hand to keep the season alive with state governments closing borders at the drop of a hat, and will be releasing fixtures a week at a time.

Therefore in the interests of keeping the season going, a 5 day break for the Dees will be a distant consideration by the AFL.

There’s a bit of speculation around town that Collingwood will be playing St Kilda next Sunday at the MCG, which would mean we’ll play GWS in one of the Saturday time slots, maybe even the twilight.

Herald Sun apparently reporting GC v Richmond will be on Thursday night, with Geel v Ess Friday night.

I suspect we’re Saturday. If we’re not the night game there aren’t many good options left, but it could be Hawthorn v Port for Burgoyne’s 400th maybe. Would be fitting against his old team too.

I’m going to assume we play the early Saturday slot vs GWS.
Our game against Port the following week will be prime time either Friday or Saturday. So can’t play Sunday.

As @Bring-Back-Powell said earlier, that won't stop the AFL from giving us a 5-day break.

Brisbane last night played off a 5-day break (Saturday vs North, into Thursday vs Geelong).

I suppose that is true, but there is no need to give us a 5 day break, so why do it?

Plenty of ordinary games next weekend to schedule on a Sunday. Plus with bigger capacity planned at the MCG next week, financially a Saturday afternoon would be a lot better for us than Sunday.

I agree, it's more that the concept of a 5-day break isn't going to stop the AFL if it decides that's what it needs to do.

I'm fairly sure we'll be Saturday, whether afternoon or night, with Collingwood v St Kilda the Sunday game.

Of course, we could get a five-day break into a Thursday night game vs Port the following week.

Makes sense to play BWS on Sat arvo 1.30 if were playing Port on a Friday Night.

That's what I thought.

Friday night 1 (hopefully) vs 5 should be a good game.

Our two games after this one are vs Hawthorn and GCS and I assume will be crap Sunday afternoon slots. Although we will likely play Gold Coast on Saturday as I assume the AFL will want our game versus the Dogs to be prime time Friday night again.

GC rarely plays Sunday home games, I think in Queensland they like the Saturday twilight/night spots so I would expect us to be in that slot for that game.

Could easily mean Sunday vs Hawthorn, 6-day break to Saturday vs GC, 6-day break again to Friday vs Dogs.

That's true, 1.30 is never too early to have a play at BWS (or Dan's!)

I hope the players make it to the ground and not BWS!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
