What it says on the can. I started a similar thread in 2017 but it didn't get far. Quite a difficult exercise, but I will give it a go to kick off.

Explain your workings and own parameters if you care to or not, and add stars or ratings however you see fit. Mine are just in order of merit and emotion.

Richmond
Dogs
Brisbane
Geelong
GWS
Saints
Sydney
Carlton
Hawthorn
Freo
North
Adelaide

Pretty much spot on.

I didn’t rate the GWS win as they had 4 blokes go off injured throughout the game and we couldn’t help but win the game.

The Sydney and St Kilda wins were more meritorious IMO.

The Dogs win was more complete but geez I’m more pumped about the Lions win.

  1. footscray win
  2. bears win
  3. richmond win
  4. sydney win
  5. geelong win
  6. carlton win
  7. gw$ win
  8. aints win
  9. hawks win
  10. freo win
  11. north win
  12. adelaide loss

although, tbh, i thought we played better in the adelaide loss than the north, freo, or hawks win

Richmond - first BIG game on big stage v Big opposition.
Tiges monstered us for 15 minutes - then we turned it around completely.
Luke Jackson breakout game.

cats were missing Danger, Cameron, Rohan

  1. Rich: Because it was a massive stage and everyone was watching us. And a melee always helps.
  2. Dogs: Regarded as the best team and we outplayed them all 4 quarters and I expected us to lose
  3. Brisbane: See above. But we rallying after half time was pleasing. And now everyone knows that our best is the best in the comp.
  4. Geelong: A good team with senior bodies. Without May in the team. Good win.
  5. Sydney: An underrated team Sydney. People don't give them their credit. A good win in the wet. Slogged it out. gutsy.
  6. Saints win: I rate the saints from last year. We were down by 4 goals and came back and won. Good win.
  7. gws win
  8. Carlton.
  9. hawks win
  10. Freo win: An unconvincing win round 1.
  11. Adelaide loss
  12. North win: This was our worst game of the season despite the win. It was the old Melbourne in the first half and it took me a few weeks to unsee that.

This looks about right.

1    Brisbane    Winning this game makes us the undisputed champs so far this year. Say no more
2    Richmond    The big "this is real" moment
3    Dogs    Knocking off the ladder leaders and taking their place
4    Sydney    Our closest victory
5    Hawthorn    A come from behind win is a come from behind win, and our closest to a smashing at the end
6    Geelong    Defeating last year's GF team is great, but it wasn't their best side
7    GWS    A good medium win
8    Carlton    Got on top against a dangerous side we should beat, and never looked like losing
9    North    Woke up after a red eye flight and played a half of footy to get the win
10    Saints    Coming back after going 20 points down in the 2nd was the first time I thought "OK, there's something different here", but it turns out the Saints suck so that takes a bit out of it
11    Freo    A win is a win is a win
12    Adelaide    A loss is a loss is a loss. We're still on track for the best statistical season ever if this is our only loss though, so there's that.30

It has to be last night for mine, has to be !

Richmond scalp was big but the coach and the players know the importance of last night

down by 20 points, looking like we missing Langdon badly in the first half then to play the way we did and come back against the inform team in the comp. IMO biggest win since the TMac goal in the west

Ok we did not play well in fact we lost but just how important was the Adelaide game. The difference in losing to the crows or winning and losing to the dogs is massive.

  1. Richmond, but only because I got to be there in the crowd
  2. Brisbane
  3. Bulldogs
  4. Geelong
  5. Sydney
  6. St Kilda
  7. Carlton
  8. Fremantle
  9. Hawthorn
  10. GWS
  11. North Melbourne
  12. Adelaide

Richmond - Gave us belief

Doggies - Gave us top spot

Lions - Showed how good we really are

Cats - Love beating these guy’s

Hawks - Erased some mental scars

Swans - Righting the wrongs

The rest were as important but not our best.

Richmond (Copped an early hazing. Returned fire with interest for three-plus quarters. Intensity off the charts)
Dogs (A complete game against a genuine in-form contender. Dogs never really had a look in)
Brisbane (Great comeback. Stamped our dominance on the competition. But first half was lacking).
Geelong (Our first real challenger. Dealt with it without too much fuss and a lot of maturity)

 - Admittedly, the rest is a bit of a crap-shoot -

GWS (Gave us a real challenge at times. We overcame)
Saints (See above, but my faith wasn't questioned)
Sydney (We didn't play particularly well but won a tight one. I'm probably underselling the Swans).
Carlton (Carlton, I don't care that much)
Hawthorn (Lost our team focus, with players tripping over each other to cash in. End was pleasing).
Freo (Was ready to give up on another season despite the win).
North (Probably the poorest performance of the year. Got the job done).
Adelaide (We played better than a few of the games above - but we lost. Simples.)

My workings above

Richmond: A real statement to the AFL world.

North: To come back and win, was a real club statement.

Sydney: Sydney are a physical team who have bested us in the past, it was another breakthrough moment beating them. But we only just had them. Underestimated.

Bulldogs: Great win against quality.

Brisbane: Coming from behind to beat the strongest opponent there is, very impressive.

Hawthorn: They still had confidence at that moment, and I think we were without May, So a good win.

Those were the standouts for me.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
