Also noticing that we have turned around our centre square clearances since that horrible game in that respects against Sydney.

The combination of Clarry and Gawn were great at winning out of there in the second half and Gawn seems to have got his radar back, with some great knock downs straight into the hands of our on ballers.

Max is like having a Ruckman and FOUR midfielders

Dr.D's points.

Positive points:
- Great fight back against a top 4 team.
-  Spargos continued improvement.
- TMac continuing to prove people wrong.
- ANB's sealer was a thing of beauty.
- Rivers' one on one work.
- Sparrow finding the ball at afl level and hitting the scoreboard at an important stage in the last qtr.

Negative points
- Umpiring (Daniher's continuous pushing in the back on Jackson yet never called and about 10 Brisbane holding the balls not paid. I got 4 of them saved on my phone. The Lyons one was the worst).

- Overall set shot goal kicking (Must be worked on! kozzy's was horrific and he really needs to improve on it. And Weideman is too tense in the shoulders and is a horrific kick for goal afl level and yet a dead eye at vfl level. frustrating).

- People have a strange infatuation with Weideman's form. He is a 23 year old key forward who may not be the superstar that people want him to be but give him a break. We paid a lot to bring a superstar in Ben Brown in who has played worse than Weido did tonight so the criticism should be squarely on Ben Brown, not Weideman.

-Salem's holding the ball. C'mon mate, you're better than that.

-- Jackson's marking still an issue. Running under the ball a lot still.

Thought Jackson struggled in the first half (had a few mates), but the move to play Gawn forward and Jackson in the ruck and behind the ball in the third was a master-stroke. It may have been Gawn's decision, but Jackson got three ground ball gets in three separate passages and repelled Brisbane exits from our forward 50. His athleticism is a real asset behind the ball. He got a bit lost when asked to play on a forward in the first half, but his work in that third was brilliant.

Awesome turn out at the game tonight. Considering the Melbourne based supporters couldn’t fly up I thought I’d be lucky to be there with 500 other mad Dees. How wrong I was.

Can’t tell you how weird but wonderful it was to be there cheering the “Mel-bourne” chant with my kids with thousands of other Demon fans in Sydney. Not to mention giving them a team we can finally trust and be proud of! They are only young and just expect Melbourne to always win which I think is pretty funny given my 30 years of following them.

The highlight of the game live had to be the chains of handballs that resulted in the TMac goal which was as loud as the G. How many times in years gone by would we have bottled it right at the end even though we had the outnumber forward? Not any more!
Mays pack mark was awesome on the wing when Brisbane were giving their final push too.

Well done Dees and their outer state supporters. Was a cracking night. No voice left but I’m sure I’m not alone.

Thoughts with all of you in Melbourne stuck at home but hopefully you’ll be let out soon and tonight has helped brighten your mood!!

Gary Lyon almost in tears he is so excited. He is choking up, and that's OK so am I, such a sensational win.

Tmac Oliver Trac Spargo Gus Rivers Kozzie Maxy ANB , votes going to be hard, alot of people really lifted.

Our running, I am sorry to say this but Burgess needs to be treated like a Pharaoh's engineer, and not allowed to leave. We just made Brisbane look silly.

I was like Gaz. I had Ed asleep on my lap in the last quarter. Twelve weeks old, eleven Melbourne wins. Anyway, I couldn't cheer when we kicked goals because I'd wake him, but I welled up and fist pumped instead, just like my old man does when we have a stirring passage and/or victory.

How bloody good is Rivers? That one handed intercept mark halfway through the last was all class. Looks like he's already played 200 games.

That McDonald goal to put us 13 points ahead is the one that made me tear up. The incredible team handball, supported by hard running, and then McDonald getting the ground ball. I'm going to argue that's our best goal for the season. Elite handball, clutch goal. It basically iced the game.

Just saw this on the Fox Sports website the call it a farce with the low crowd:
https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/teams/melbourne-demons/afl-news-2021-melbourne-demons-vs-brisbane-lions-crowd-giants-stadium-why-was-game-moved-alice-springs/news-story/a0bca13a993a158ed7881f534de13004

The question mark being why wasn't the game moved to the GABBA where they would get a massive Lions crowd. This just shows how dumb Andy Maher is, why the bloody hell should the Lions get a free home game? They got a MASSIVE leg up last season and still couldn't get the job done, the game was in Sydney so hardly a huge trek for the Brisbane fans, and yet very clearly the Dees fans outnumbered the Lions fans.

For once it was the right and fair call to have the game at a neutral venue, if anything it should have been at the SCG where I think there would've been more of a chance of people going.

And well done to the Sydney based Dees-faithful, you did a cracking job of creating an atmosphere.

Despite what the haters around here think he must be doing exactly what Goodwin wants him to.

I've been critical of Melkshsm too, but he played his role tonight.

I wouldn't be surprised if they internally lauded Gus's game last week and told Melkshsm to play a similar role this week. I don't think he even got 10 possessions, but he was wearing Brisbane players all night with some really good hustle, and then was involved in some important scoring chains off half back.

I think it's important Melksham continues to add strings to his bows, because if he wants to stay in the team long term, we need those guys with positional flexibility and versatility.

Fritsch has his mid sized forward role sewn up and I think in 2022 and beyond, they'll want to get another small at the feet of the three talls and Fritsch. So Melksham needs to diversify.

I was surprised by the crowd tbh. It was never going to be massive but that was a solid band of Melbourne supporters, so fair play to those who got there.

We still had to put up with the fake crowd noise on 7 though. That noise is so canned it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Last weeks win was a high like ive barely known as a 50 + years supporter. This weeks win sent me to a whole new level.

20 points down at half time against a side 3rd on the ladder having just won 7 straight.  To then come out and overpower, out run, out tackle and out think them was more hawthorn or richmond like than any melbourne team i’ve ever known. Add to this that if we  hadnt kicked 4 goals 8 from set shots ( one of the few negatives) we could have won tonight by more like 8 goals. in reality after half time that was a massive thumping. More than last week, this week tells me , with an ounce of luck, we can win this years flag.

it’s the team orientation, the coaching moves, the emergence of so many new stars ( kozzie,  rivers, jackson,  spargo .. yes spargo) with the old ones ( gawn, oliver, petracca, May, Langdon  Lever, Brayshaw) stepping further up. Not to mention fringe players like harmes, petty, anb , sparrow all playing outstanding roles. barely a weak link! how many melbourne teams have i been able to say barely a weak link about?

This team is one fr the ages. 11-1 . crazy .

The games we win like this are all the sweeter for having sat at Optus Stadium for the 2018 Preliminary Final being abused by West Coast supporters and hearing the moronic ‘Eagles’ chant throughout the whole last quarter….

We all have our horror stories over the years but we’ve never stopped loving this club and how much it means to us especially for the supporters in Victoria right now.

So proud of this group of players and coaching staff - we have a team full of genuine and emerging stars.

The scary thing is we still have room for improvement - even after beating the inform top 4 team, with a 42 point turn around, who were on a 7 game winning streak….

Can’t wait for the Pies!

This is great.

I hope the moaners on here about playing at Giants Stadium; the ones who think ‘we should have just played in front of no one’ will self-reflect with this post.

You were great and enjoy QB with the rest of the Demons up north.

Are you the supporter who defends Jake Melkshams five disposals?

Apparently you are.

Look..its nothing personal' Its just the way it is.

I so wish he would be a player who impacts the scoreboard but he simply doesnt. Less than Sam w,.

its just the facts, not malicioius,

You look at stats, is that because you don’t know what you’re looking at, explain Melkshams role on Mclugage tonight, explain the 3 goals we got from Sam contesting against Andrews

Interesting how they used Melksham in a defensive role through stoppages. He seemed to mostly go with Lyons, which freed up Oliver and Petracca to be more offensive. He also played as the extra in defensive stoppage at times. I thought he played a good game.

He spent the second half pressuring Mcluggage and was within striking distance of him every time he was near, in possession of or providing options for the pill. Absolutely shut down their ability to transition through him

It was amazing to see so many demon fans there all proud of their team - would say the crowd was at least 80% Dee’s fans

I’ve still got no voice left this morning, was an absolute treat to be there.

Interestingly Sparrow had 19 disposals from 58% game time and without doing the maths I’d imagine that was the greatest disposals per game time of anyone.

Great effort and needs to be recognised.

One guy that will benefit from more games. Think he will make it.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
