Cerra doesn’t really fill a need for us. He is going to be a star, of that I have no doubt - really like the kid (not many flaws). His ball use is something that we could use, but we drafted Bowey and Laurie for that. Cerra would come at a high cost and he plays in a position where we are already very strong. We need to fill our weaknesses at this point. Money better spent elsewhere. I’d perhaps look to move on a big dollar forward in exchange for a proven wingman to compliment Langers.

What need Dont we want if Cerra was available ?

Outside runner I would think!

Really he fits like a glove for us and his disposal is good which means he qualifies under the new Melb rule of skill.

Seriously why are we discussing the trade/draft period right now, when we're 10-1 at the halfway mark of the 2021 season?

if there has ever been a season where we don't have to start thinking about the trade/draft period mid-year, it's this [censored] one!

10-1* asterisk on the 1.

Wasn't long ago craft day was the best day of the year to be a Melbourne supporter

This is an incredibly short sighted view.

The club and passionate supporter base on here should always be pondering the future and if we want to keep winning then we need to keep improving.

A 10-1 start 12 months ago would have been considered impossible but we made improvements in to make it happen

Unfortunately i think Adam Cerra is going to end up at Essendon next year, they're exciting, looking like a finals contender, and have the money/trade assets to get it done

Sure.

And at the end of the year when all's said and done, we can then look to improve our list.

How tight are we for space really? Is that well documented, or is it just speculation? Collingwood may have stuffed up their cap, but Hawthorn and Richmond when at full flight seemed to be able to bring one of these “come home” players in every year, despite their existing star power, and the cap never seemed to be an issue. How? It must be possible.

That said, we have already done a fair bit of it with Lever, May, Langdon  etc.

In my opinion it's speculation based on the theory we'd have another bad year this year and have to pay overs to keep Petracca, Oliver, Salem, Lever, and Gawn who we needed to re-sign

and while it's difficult to know without actually seeing the books, it does appear all of those listed above have taken comfortably less money than they might have gotten on the open market

I like the idea of building a dynasty and improving every year. That's why I like these sort of threads, even when we're in the position we find ourselves in now.

And remember, if we don't get them in, other teams will. Would Treloar have improved us? Yes. Instead he improved the Dogs. If Merrett goes, he's going to improve another contender, otherwise he'll stay at the Bummers stuck on the mid-table merry-go-round. We need to be constantly vigilant and proactive.

Oooooh, it's exhausting at the top......

Brayshaw is the much better player out of that Freo midfield.

It depends what Cerra'd cost us. I know some of the WA posters like him, but I'm not a big fan.

That said, we're clearly looking to add outside polished to our midfield (see Merrett), so if Merrett is a no go, maybe we do look at Cerra. He's got a great name.

The one thing I know is the more we keep winning and the deeper we get this year, the more appealing we will be to a player like Cerra who might be assessing his future.

Cerra is OK, ready for the next step. The Dees may be that stepping stone, and there is a strong culture of competition and game structure(s) from which to benefit at the Dees - at present.

He ain't no Brayshaw; the little brother would be an ideal asset onfield, and imagine those walks onto and off the ground (at the end of a game) holding hands with big brother, Gus. Just lovely! I am sure that Gus would ensure that he was well cared for in the Red'nBlue!

As for Merrett, do we wish to enter into a contest of bidders for his services given our recent recruitments from elsewhere? Would he be so vital to our line-up? Nah!

Do you mean the club or supporters?

If you mean the club, I disagree. Players ponder their futures mid season. That's when deals get done.

If you mean supporters, this is a supporter site after all and we nit pick game plan, the list, you name it. Pondering potential players to make us better is pretty standard, even at the top teams. Geelong supporters were talking about landing Dangerfield for months before it happened. It's not like they were at the foot of the table.

Yeah, it sure is inconvenient to not click on a thread and having to scroll another 0.5cm to the next one.

I clicked on it thinking that there may be something official like Cerra meets with Melbourne officials or something and all I get is 'should we get Cerra?' wtf.

Cerra is a good player, but is a dime a dozen midfielder.  So many players like him around. Is going to cost way too much.

Is talks of clubs offering close to one Mill a year,  that's crazy and silly.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
