A covid related footy specific question - i promise.

Currently there are no restrictions for Victorian traveling to SA (well that's not quite true - as per the SA gov website anyone who has been at a COVID-19 Tier 1 or Tier 2 Public Exposure Site in vic are not permitted to enter SA)

And looking at the SA gov website, it would appear there is no restriction on crowd size.

So does it not seem likely that the game will go ahead at Adelaide oval next weekend (assuming no change to current situation)?

Currently maybe. Ask again in 2-3 hours and the situation will change at least 17 times by then.

Nobody knows anything. SA could have an outbreak, we could have an outbreak, borders will shut, borders will open.

For the sake of simplicity the AFL might decide to hub everyone in Victoria for the next 2-3 weeks and hence we play Port in Victoria. Or not.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure we are considered 'low risk' in SA not 'no risk' which means that if you go to SA you need a test and Isolate for 14 days.

The optimist says WA, SA, NT and Queensland will all be done with their lockdowns and issues by this time next week. SA didn't go into lockdown and has no new cases. The others locked down early and appear at this stage to be doing well.

If that optimistic situation arises, the WA, SA and Queensland teams will go home either next week or the week after. Meaning the Vic hub may only last one week (this week), save for the NSW teams who aren't going to be playing games at home any time soon it seems.

At any rate, if they are trying to get Adelaide v Brisbane played in Adelaide, I'd suggest right now it's more likely than not that we'll be playing Port in Adelaide next week.

Australia has some of the most concentrated media ownership in the world and they're all right wing. Murdoch (owns most of the newspapers, including every regional QLD newspaper and Sky News), Costello (9 and Fairfax), Seven West and Rinehart's Channel 10 (her representative on the board now is Andrew Robb, you know, the traitorous Liberal MP that sold the Darwin Port to a Chinese company when he was in politics and then went and sat on that company's board after politics).

Like conservatives in Britain that constantly attack the BBC for being supposedly left wing (this is the IPA playbook for privatisation - see the IPAs 'Why We Should Privatise The ABC and How To Do It'), conservatives here attack the ABC for a supposed left wing bias.

All this comes out of the Murdoch/Rinehart think tank, the IPA. Single handedly responsible for shutting down the climate debate. Abbott implemented two thirds of their policies in his first year in office. Yet whenever independent studies into ABC bias are conducted, they usually always show a plain old centrist mix of issues and equal coverage of both the major parties (like here).

The problem with the two major parties is one is centrist, the other is right wing, so the whole left wing right wing paradigm is played out on the conservative side. There's not a lot of left wing about Labor. They abandoned that in the 70s, when they abandoned the class conflict. They've been raging neoliberals since 1974. If you look at the Menzies Liberal Party, modern Labor sits well to the Right of that economically. Meanwhile, we've got the Murdoch media deliberately claiming Labor are some sort of Socialists.

Definitely a different approach in Europe.

Different approach in the UK ... they're now playing by their own rules. (Which is why you effectively can't travel from the UK to Europe unless you've been vaccinated.) In France you can't get into a football stadium without having been vaccinated, similar across most of Europe (more or less).

Gee PF the problem isn't the govt specialists giving advice it's the action they should be taking.

i cannot envisage any circumstance where any authority in Vic health would say "no way Hosea" without some reason. As a public servant they are responsible for their decisions.

I would have thought your history of DVT is the first and most important reason why you should get the correct vaccine that does not have any adverse effect. It's the reason why all advice is to see your GP (which you seem to have done). However if there are no supplies of the vaccine that may be a reason for no way but I still believe that in that case they would give you an appointment.

Vulnerable people should be vaccinated first. Healthy people with limited contacts can be done later.

Clearly the AFL and/or channel 7 consider the Dogs as the more attractive side to put on prime time despite Port and Melbourne being closer on the ladder together than the Dogs and Sydney.

I suspect that it's all about Sydney (the city) viewership. Channel 7 knows that Sydney people will watch a game involving Sydney (the team) but not much else. Furthermore, people from Adelaide will still watch games even if neither of their local teams are involved.  So, of these two options, Channel 7's biggest audience will be Dogs v Sydney, not PA v Melbourne.

dogs are a high scoring side = more goals = more ads = more revenue for ch 7

Dogs have a more 'fun' brand to watch and they can smash teams. We are only exciting to watch if you're a Melbourne supporter.

Lets be honest, defensive game plans are drab, but they win flags.

To be honest I just really want this game to happen in Victoria. I don't care if it's Sunday twilight. But bloody SA are just not letting that Covid spread. Rude.

Regardless, I can see two reasons for Channel 7 wanting the Dogs v Sydney game in prime time:

1. both sides like to score (albeit Sydney's scoring is down recently); and
2. fair chance Sydney will be still be in some form of lockdown, meaning plenty of eyeballs on screens in Sydney.

There's a fair chance there is also going to be a Thursday night game next week: they can't put Dogs v Sydney on Thursday because Sydney's on Sunday this week, so there's every chance our match will be Thursday night and then they need something to fill the Friday night, and the only other option is probably Carlton v Geelong.

Channel 7 news reported last night that our game is in the box seat for Friday night, but I take your point that Thursday night may be an option.

Are Thursday nights locked in for the rest of the year? With clubs reluctance to play on 5 day breaks, perhaps we won't have many or any more.
