Probably just inappropriate attention.

Women and some men get this all the time.

Can create friction if partner/friend is testosteroned and wants to stand up.

Ask women about the best way to deflect these men. They do it regularly without conflict.

End male on male violence. It is not nice.

Why would AFL players take gf's to a sleazy nightclub? Go to a restaurant with Dustin. I thought they went  to clubs to get picked  up  by groupies ..re  Geelong. Stkilda in past days. Do AFLW girls go to nightclubs? lol

30 years ago I was weaving my way through a crowded nightclub making my way back from the ladies’ room when I was hit in the head with a jug of beer. It wasn’t deliberate, one big drunk guy was passing the beer to his mate, but it was reckless. My then-boyfriend was furious and asked me to point the guy out, which I did. What happened next? Nothing, that’s what. Turns out the big drunk guy was Darren Millane and the then-bf was a diehard Magpies fan.
Needless to say, that relationship didn’t exactly flourish.

If it was Darren Millane probably smart of your then boyfriend to leave it be...

Maybe it was the other way around, maybe his gf is a dj and maybe she was playing at da club that night? Maybe she dragged him along to watch her set?

"Richmond men". The greatest myth ever perpetrated in the AFL. They're in the image of Damien Hardwick - total campaigner!

I cut Dusty slack - modest champ who plays clean.

Sure it wasn't the Keysborough hotel. Millane spent many hours there and was a complete drunk and bully. I remember it well.

In terms of the football implications of this, it's very interesting.  Tigers now have Cotchin, Prestia, Lambert, Edwards, Bolton from their midfield for at least this week and probably the next week.  That would be something like us missing Viney, Oliver, Harmes, Brayshaw and Kozzie.  Would be tough to win games like that.  Although they have Dusty - his unaccountable style won't help much if they can't win the ball!

They play GWS and Brisbane the next two weeks.  I can't see them getting it done without their midfield.  Still think they will be tough to beat in September if all their players come back but this will make things much harder for them if they're 4-6 after round 10!

Apparently the guy behaved inappropriately with Riolli's GF, Rioli remonstrated, the guy punched Rioli in the eye and Bolton stepped in to defend both Rioli and his GF.  Your assumption was pretty much trash.

Edit: I would prefer to see the clubs place a ban on players going to clubs etc during the season, so that if such things happen, the players can be disciplined.  They are supposed to be highly paid professional athletes, and by putting themselves in a position where 'heroes' might try it on with them, they are not doing the club any favours.

They stated on 360 they were out celebrating Bolton’s girlfriend’s birthday.

That's the one side of the story that has been granted media coverage so far. You're the one making assumptions that it's the full and correct story and is all as black and white (or black and yellow) as Richmond FC Inc. have made out.

Juicebox is right to say you put yourself in risk of serious consequences when you decide violence is the way to deal with issues like this. Ask Patrick Cronin's family.

Why?

The woman would handle it much better without a male "having to stand up".

The men should leave it alone. Then thank the women for her calmness and skill.

Blokes should keep out of it.

It is not a competition for the female. It is an unwarranted advance by a male.

Our society is stamping out this toxic male behaviour in the workplace.

Hoping all that social pressure reforms the public spaces as well.

Hashing, me too movement, is making small steps.

Males who can't communicate without anger should go get training.

Had you considered that perhaps Rioli's GF was not handling the situation well, or that the offender was too munted to understand that his attention wasn't appreciated.  I agree that toxic male behaviour should be rubbed out, but as we are not privy to the whole situation, we are both probably best not commenting.  The reason I called the original comment trash, was that it immediately assumed that Rioli and Bolton must have been the aggressors, based purely on the fact that they play for Richmond.

My issue with Juicebox's comment was that he automatically assumed that the Richmond players were the first to throw punches and that it was just further evidence that they are trash with a trash culture.

That's not what it said. It said "their culture are trash". Regardless of 'defending a female', punching on in a nightclub is not grown up behaviour nor a sign of good culture.

There's plenty of examples over the last few years that indicate their off field culture is poor.

I see your point.

"Not handling the situation" will only be exacerbated as the men started knocking heads together.

The women know how to handle it.

If she needs help, her sister (strangers) are right there to jump in. Just need to yell for help.

I'll say it again, the men who cannot communicate without aggression should stay well away.

I will comment on these type of situation though I have no idea of the actions, only the outcome, because it is a dominant societal problem. Especially since, male violence is in that tribal game of AFL. With examples on and off the field by all clubs and as a representative section of our community  Without education about how to express appropriate assertiveness, we are all deminished.

End male on male violence.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
