Makes a few people who posted to drop him on the changes thread look a bit silly to say the least...

Great first game back.

The split looks like:

  • 5/5 McDonald
  • 4/3 Mills
  • 4/2 Oliver
  • 3/0 May
  • 2/0 Harmes
  • 1/0 Hickey
  • 1/0 Salem

So both coaches gave votes to McDonald, Mills and Oliver.

No agreement on May, Harmes, HIckey and Salem.

If we drop Tom McDonald and James Harmes surely that makes it easier for Gawn, Oliver and Salem to get more votes, and win the award.

Maxy is due for an absolute blinder.

Was  hard on Sat eve  with the ball being so slippery. He dropped a few he'd normally swallow whole.

Almost as silly as those you suggested Mcdonald plays back.

I'm a bit surprised that Luke Parker didn't get a vote.  He seemed to bob up with annoying frequency, particularly around those much discussed centre clearances.

edit:  I just checked his stats to see if it was just my imagination, and he had 32 disposals, 4 marks, 5 tackles and 7 clearances.  That's a good day's work by any standard.

Great first game back.

It really was a good return for Harmes; he battled hard and kept working away at it all despite a loss of form and a few errors. His use of the body in close and in screens was terrific. His ball usage was sloppy at times and at other times, effective. His ability to run and link is a real asset to our game, and it will improve as he, too, adjusts to the new footballing mantras about him.

Yes, good first game back for Harmes, but he does owe the club.

10 Votes T Mac

You really have to hand it to him. Amazing mental toughness and application to get his body and game back to 2018 level. Put up for trade last year too.

No-one saw this coming.  As his confidence grows, he could really dominate

Him and Fritsch on track to get 40-50 goals this season

Indeed. Dont kniw what game they watched.

He made a few poor decisions but for tge most part played a ripper even outside the fact it was his first gamr for the season.

Will be even better with a few games in him.

So many players are reaching their true potential because of our new winning culture.

Sorry started with Fritta and got carried away but agreed on the big guy.

  • Demonland changed the title to COACHES VOTES: Rd 08 2021

Amazing that 2 of our forwards have gained 10/10 in consecutive weeks and 4 players in the top 12. Shows that there is not an over reliance on 1 or 2 stars.

Correct.  Only way the votes could have gone

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

  • POSTGAME: Essendon

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
