I’m surprised about Jetta and a little disappointed. But overall it was always going to be hard to replace our best forward and our best defender.

Me too but I’m happy to see both petty and hibberd in.

Thought Jetta had been pretty good, not fantastic but still really solid. Don’t particularly  like 3 changes to a team who has been so settled. I suppose 2 are forced though.

No chance.

He's cooked, he can't move. They're not dropping him after going 4-0 if they're confident on his return to form.

'Dropped' due to injury. Didn't train today, clearly named as emergency in case he's right in time and is needed.

We must continously fit players into the team, not let them wilt on the vine because we hesitate with team selection out of little more that conservatism. We are to go places, instead; real depth, not perceive depth, is critical to that aim. Give the talent games, and thus keep game-day performances at a level of competitive excellence. Pay for footballers should not be a series of sinecures.

Good ins, it shows our depth is impressive

Happy with the 'ins' as well. Also happy to see Daw as an emergency - he could be really useful and unsettling for the Hawks.

Good selections, Hibbs has experience and needs to cement his place, reads the ball very well and will back up Lever for getting to the ball drop.

Petty for his contested marking ability. Has been in the system for a while, and could work well under General Lever.

Mitch Brown to give us a leading target, hoping for 2 to 4 goals.

Majak must have been close as he is the emergency.

Our balance still looks good. The depth we have is fine.

Go Dees.

Getting to the stage where you'd have to think that players like Lockhart and even Joel Smith are ahead of him - with players like Bowey waiting in the wings.

I still don't like our forward line. Fritsch, Weed and BBB out is a massive blow. We have got by with 2 out but 3 might be pushing it.

Lockhart, Hibberd and Bowey maybe - Joel Smith will probably never play seniors again

I believe Jetta may not be 100%. His family has been sick so he may be a little unwell.
Either way, I hope to see him back in the side soon.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
