I am an academic at the University of South Australia and I am conducting some research on fans’ views of racism in the AFL. To do so I have created an anonymous and confidential survey that should only take a few minutes of your time to complete:

The survey is optional and a participant information sheet providing more detail about the study is located on the opening page when you click on the link. I hope you agree it is a topical study and I thank in advance those who volunteer their time to assist me with my research.

Are there any foregone conclusions you are trying to support?

 

Absolutely not jnrmac. Just trying to get an overview of fans' views on the topic area through their own experiences/observations. Thanks to those who have completed the survey and shared these.

That is the very first thing that crossed my mind when I read "academic at the University of South Australia" and "research on fans' views of racism in the AFL".

Would expect the academic already has an end point in mind and is simply looking to fill the spaces in between.

 

Took the survey anyway. Is not very in depth. In fact it seemed incredibly shallow.

Of course their is racism. Is it a big problem in the AFL? Not now that Eddie McGuire has left the scene. The stuff he was allowed to get away with was astonishing. That is where the O.P should start with his survey.

I find it interesting that those who rattle on about snowflakes, cancel culture, and freedom of speech are the most thin skinned and defensive and have the largest persecution complex when something is mentioned that remotely and vaguely threatens their world view.? 
Novel idea I know, but perhaps those doubting @theacademic's motives could actually take the survey. Without biasing the results, it actually does give one the chance to outline one's beliefs about racism  and whether it exists or not among football fans. ? Just a thought.

Last time I heard racism at the Footy was 10? years ago.  Swans supporter if you can believe it, having a go at Goodes.  I called him out on it, he swore in my face and stormed off. Real class act.

Genuine question, what experience brings you to think about academia in this way?

I generally find that people who have spoken with academics and see how studies/experiments are undertaken and scrutinised, don't have this perspective.

I take it from your comments that you don't believe in freedom of speech and support cancel culture.
