They were simply too good. Great defensive set up.

But our innacurate kicking for goal has again come back to haunt us.

These women have been magnificent the last few weeks. No shame in losing today. No shortage of endeavour but lacked quality.

The vagaries of the draw caught up with us. We better get a favourable draw next year or I’ll be fuming. Just too big an ask to back up week after week against the strong teams. Adelaide are a good team but we belted them on our patch. They had a softer draw racked up the percentage and that was enough to get them top spot and the or so important home finals.

We’ve had a great year with some real talent emerging. The foundation is there. I think the one thing we are missing is a dominant forward. Any chance with could pinch Tayla Harris from Carlton I wonder? She’d straighten us up and give us a real presence inside 50. Bannon is too young and callow yet and needs more time to develop.

I’m disappointed we didn’t give a better account of ourselves today but the future is bright. The girls can hold their heads high this evening. They’ve done us proud over the journey.

Gee that was disappointing.  We looked lethargic from the outset, and I reckon we had run our race before the first bounce.

No lateral movement, no plan to create space for us, everything rushed.

Adelaide deserved the win, marking and getting the ball out of their backline. They played better pressured footy.

I don’t think I commented on the heart of the players, but IMV, some of the skill errors are what you’d expect to see at u16s level. That’s my opinion. I will continue to support the women’s game and know that as junior development continues, so too will the elite level. At the moment, too many players have not grown up with a pathway to AFL and have been plucked from other sports. This leads to messy skills and lack of understanding of game plans. 
 

I’ll leave you with that. You seemed to be very triggered by the comment and I’m sorry you’ve taken it to heart, but if you look at some of the errors, you would see that there is merit to my comments.

Maybe I did let my frustration at the performance boil over a little.

Skills are improving every year. Rome wasn’t built in a day. I think that’s worth bearing in mind when appraising the team.

Great effort to get to a Prelim.  One quarter of reasonable footy won't cut it against the best i'm afraid.

Apart from Paxmen, Hanks, Mithen, Scott and Zanker (first half or a tad less) the rest looked flat, not.enough clean possessions and took too long to decide / execute with ball in hand.

Very disorganised forward of centre and mostly just bombed it in to the hot zone similar to the match against the Pies making it relatively easy for the defence to counter.

While she tried hard, Pearce was also neautralised and / or beaten in general by Gould which had a huge impact on the girl's getting first use of the ball as often as they have in recent matches.  Cunningham appeared to compete a little better when she was in there.

Need to work on ball skills and quick movement / chains in the off season, forward craft and recruit some genuinly skilled ball users and smaller/medium forwards who can finish off the spillage.

Nice effort overall for the season but need to recognise that we were also easily beaten and were a mile off it and still a whole match away from a GF.

Have built solid foundations but much work and change required ahead to take the next step and complete the build.  Ignore the fixes and assume it will just 'happen' we will find ourselves back in the pack again in 2022.

The one area I have seen zero improvement in is our forward line. That is season wide, not just today. I am not sure we can persist with Teagan Cunningham. Doesn’t impact the contest enough for a woman her size and is all at sea when the ball is on the deck. Bannon will be a good player, but is just a kid still learning the craft. Zanker is a great forward, but is needed elsewhere on the field. I think we need to address this area going into next season if we are to progress. Hopefully we get Petrevski back in the mix, but even she wouldn’t have made much of a difference today as we bombed into a forward line blindly

In my view, the reward for finishing 1st or 2nd is just too great in the womens' game. A week off and a prelim at home in a three week finals series. 

I'd be amazed if it isn't 1st vs 2nd in the grand final. 

The AFL really sh*t me with their pandering of favourites (both men and women). 

Dees had an absolutely ripper season and should hold their heads high.

We do lack structure up forward. We look best with either Cunningham or Zanker marking well but that has be oh so rare. Obviously Bannan is the hope here, and she shows so real promise, but is just too light at the moment to be a really target against stronger opponents.

We are kicking scores with our smalls but our next step forward needs the big forwards to win against settled defences.

The 1.9 scoreline is symptomatic of our year. We were good enough to be playing in the granny, just lacked that composure.

Well done girls. Go again next year and plenty of goal kicking practice in the off season.

Thought we lost it during the week.

Heard an interview with a player where she said, treating it like a normal game so we don't stress.

Need to be ready to play finals football, pressure, pressure , pressure. 

It was far too easy for some of the Adelaide players.

When McNamara went down we should have put Bannan out on the wing for her speed and ability to break lines.

I’m ok with the top teams being rewarded, except 4 teams finished on equal points.  The lopsided draw and the fact Adelaide racked up massive percentage against low ranked teams and finished top irks me.  I know the draws are uneven in the men’s, the shortened season magnifies this inequity in the women’s. 

I think this is a different game if played at Casey.  

The team can be proud of their season, it wasn’t their day today, but Sometimes that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

We saved our worst performance for the most important. Our inaccuracy was just terrible. But we had a good season and hope we can get back up there next year.
