Fox 'Man on the Mark' segment is reporting we have a replacement for Ryan Larkin, to be announced after Easter.

"...Hawthorn’s Clare Pettyfor has won the race for the coveted position ahead of a string of highly credentialed candidates. She will leave the Hawks after six years".

A little bit of 'googling' shows her sister Kathleen is a physio at MFC and is married to Alex Sakadjian who spent a number of years in our Sports Science team.  So there is a strong mfc connection for Clare.

If Clare's appointment is correct, then welcome aboard the Demons train!

Well done MFC.

I'm happy to provide some ideas for Clare on how comms.could be improved at the mfc, should she be interested.

Replying to emails from members would be one. Particularly those that are specifically about poor communication.

Like the one I sent nearly three weeks ago and have yet to receive a response.

There might be lots of reasons why staff can't respond to all emails/phone calls.

fwiw, may I suggest this isn't the thread to air grievances.

If it is Clare, give her time to settle in and assess where things are at.

I reckon I sent an email same time period as you and I'm still waiting for response..

I'd rather the club focus it's limited resources on footy this year and as long as we know when and where the AFL and AFLW matches are and how to buy tickets, and maybe some fan engagement for kids,  that is enough for me.

I'm happy that the club doesn't promote Casey home and away matches, and presume this is deliberate so they don't have to worry as much re Covid protocols for supporters attending Casey matches.

For the adult supporters I'm sure we can all get by without knowing all of the ins and outs of what's happening within the club for 1 season. Alternatively the club could get Gary Pert to run Whiteboard Wednesday sessions to share insights into the inner workings of the footy department.

Step one - don’t send out finals brochures before we’ve made finals!
That 2017 [censored] up was like salt in the wound for members when we stuffed up in the last round and didn’t make it.

While that's being sorted out, a side question: how does a 'communications' person qualify for a senior 'football' position? (cue 'It is Collingwood after all' jokes)

p.s. But good on her: Onwards, greater balance in the AFL!

p.p.s. And sn't it a credit to MFC and its systems, culture, etc, that we are fostering senior, promotable, adaptable people?

Jeez no one is saying Pert or for that matter Kate Roffe are perfect but they as a team have turned our ship around despite innuendo and criticism at most announcements / changes. We are no longer that club that was on our hands and knees wishing that we could be up there with the successful clubs. It’s time to stop and smell the roses, enjoy our current success and put our personal grievances aside.!!

Would be pretty apparent if you read the article.

It appears to be quite a big promotion for Clare, nothing to do with being squeezed out more a recognition of her skill set and experience.!!

It is also that only 50% of their (females in senior or coaching positions) salaries are included in the soft cap.  This is to encourage recruitment of females into the otherwise male domain.  This also impacts Daisy when she goes to Geelong in a coaching role next year.

Oh that’s interesting. Is this a short term incentive?

Not sure, just that it is now in play and many clubs are exploring the opportunity to add talent at soft cap discounts….

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
