Cats are a bit vulnerable too ... Lions tomorrow night with Danger & Cameron out and then they are up against the plucky Hawks and a hungry Demons outfit (or at least we had better be hungry!)

Blues to make the 8? No chance. Still too many duds on that list.

I saw a serious lack of heart in the final quarter.  Williams the golden recruit gave a couple of putrid defensive efforts and there were plenty of others just jogging along behind their men instead of gut running and trying to impact the contest.  Plus their ball movement fell apart when they got tired and they reverted to the long bomb and hope someone marks it.

And let's hope Oliver doesn't get any ideas about wanting to join that rabble next season.

Ben could be a real handful if the forward lines remain as open as what we've seen tonight

Is he still 5 or 6 weeks off or is it more or less than that time frame?

As it stands I'd have Gawn & LJ rotating deep forward with T-Mac roaming far and wide

We need to stretch opposition defences with our height (that evaluation is based on the attacking footy becoming the norm with less congested forward lines)

The timeframe for BB's return seems to creep up with each injury update. At the moment he's listed to return in dreaded 4-6 weeks bracket so he may not be match fit when we play them in round 9.

The Weid is listed at 2-4 so he should be up and running. I reckon he’ll be vying with TMac for a spot in the team given LJ is ruck relief for Gawny. If TMac continues to play like he did against Freo he’ll be hard to dislodge.

A lot depends on T-Mac but if we make him a stationary target up forward we are asking for trouble ... he needs a roaming commission even if that means he gets as far out as the wing (on occasions)

Fritsch needs to continue to stand up whilst LJ,  Gawn & Petracca (as well as the smalls) need to play their roles

We won't win games against the good teams unless our forward line functions well.

And quick ball movement into our forward line is paramount

Very true

We have to assume that our game on Saturday night will be played at high speed much like last nights game (especially at Docklands - fast deck)

Ratten likes to coach that way anyway ... we need to match them and better them

Calling it now, if the Cats lose tonight they wont play finals.

They would be 0-2 and still have Danger and Cameron out a couple more weeks, and these home games are ones they'd have penclilled in even against a very good Lions team.

In other words... GO LIONS!

And a fair chance the ground will be dewy so the ball will be slippery.  Will affect both teams - its just who handles it better.

...unless they close the roof early in the evening before dew sets in.

I don't think a shootout bodes well for us against the Saints

On Footy Classifed this week Matthew Loyd noted the stat that teams that start the season 0 - 2 have only a 1 in 10 chance of playing finals.

Thus blues are gone-ish. Cats in  trouble if they go down tonight. Dees are so far so good

You may be right but our best chance remains if we move the ball into our forward line at rapid speed coupled with our forwards playing their role properly

Even just being a visible target helps enormously so our forwards need to play in front as a minimum standard.

That $50 I put on the Cats not making finals is looking good

although I’m not a big believer in those stats. It’s 1 in 10 as the majority of teams who lose the first two games are poor teams that go on to lose many more games. The 1 in 10 are the good teams who happened to lose the first two

I reckon that's a good bet DD, plus that that B has been coaching there too long as well. Time for a bit of self scratching in Catland

People coming in from Brisbane to watch the game at the Cattery are being urged to leave. This does not include the Brisbane players and officials.

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
