A lot of noise in the media to swap our game to Marvel so the two Victorian teams can get more numbers to the G

Be disappointing if that's the case, particularly if some MFC members miss out, but at 27K it should be ok.

From a footy perspective, I don't think we play Marvel that much worse than the G to be honest.

I can't see it happening though. Would be a big call to move a home teams game elsewhere.

Change it to Perth Stadium would suit me better.

Won't happen. We'd have to get another MCG game to make it up to fit contractual obligations. Essendon would also have to make up another Marvel game.

That's the least of the league's problems anyway. WA needs 28 days of no community cases before it loosens border restrictions with Vic. Meaning Freo needs to quarantine for 14 days when they return.

Round 1 won't happen as it currently is. Won't be surprised if our game is postponed or we play GC, and Freo and WC play each other round 1.

WA still stands to be the one state that [censored] things up.

Out of interest, are you able to advise which individuals are campaigning this?

The AFL will no doubt be re-shuffling fixtures at one stage or another so it would seem a bit unnecessary to make a change that is not impacted by COVID and border issues.

I would like to think the club would vigorously oppose the suggestion.

Turns out round 1 will stay as it is. If Melbourne buckles and accepts a move to Marvel the fans should rightfully riot. AFL fixturing boss:

“The Round 1 fixture as it stands, we can proceed with that. The challenge will be Fremantle coming to Victoria to play Melbourne. It presents an issue as it stands for Fremantle going back to WA, they would have to quarantine,”

Simple fix. Get WFC and Freo out of Perth. Relocate all 2021 home games to other venues in Australia and the state can suffer the financial and performance ramifications.

It is clear now that we know how to respond to outbreaks with short sharp lockdowns. 28 days without community transmission is just ludicrous - we managed to play a whole tennis tournament throughout this debacle.

I sense that this is a little bit of sour puss from WA state govt after we awarded the finals series to Qld.

Why close the thread?

Im just reporting what was being said in the media today.

Is my opinion insignificant?

I think it’s worth discussing as I doubt this is the last we will hear of it.

What record are you going on BBP?
Overall since Marvel started or last few years?

Our last 4 years since beating Saints in Round 1 at Marvel would be about 70% where as The G we wouldn't be Near 50%  I don't reckon.

Just taking the [censored]. Those guys are merchants. They move from one topic to another with maximum hyperbole. I can't see this gaining much traction.

I value your opinion DeeZee. Just not theirs.

Yeah to be brutally honest our record at Marvel is miles better than the MCG in recent years and we play the venue so much better. I just didn't want to upset the MCG loving fans who hate attending Marvel.

I'll be damn annoyed if McGowan ends up high jacking the season.

Make Freo quarantine at home for X amount of days but let them out for training. Anyone that transgresses gets a 6 week suspension and/or a $20,000 fine. Simples.

It’s also the first game of the year and it’s significantly important to the fans who finally get the reward of seeing the Dee’s at the G after a tough period of lockdown, as well as being  a big drive for membership.

With Friday night, Saturday afternoon/night and Sunday afternoon/night three games can be accommodated at the MCG on that weekend.

The AFL tossers should leave us alone and work around us. If Freo can't go home, then tough. It's not our worry.

There's a State election in WA on 13 March. On current projections, the incumbent government will win comfortably and primarily because of its "tough Covid approach". So, don't expect a change in the WA Government's quarantine rules before 13 March. I wouldn't be at all surprised, though, if Gil has received a "nod and a wink" that quarantine rules for porfessional sportspeople will change sometime between 14 March and Round 1 of the AFL season.

I think Marvel can still accommodate all Dees fans who want to go, if not then I wouldn’t be in favor.

As a gesture of goodwill to the competition I don’t think it’s a bad idea (I mean it doesn’t cost us much) but my concern is then that it won’t be reciprocated. We got stitched last year with our trips to Cairns and overall itinerary so I would expect favorable treatment if/when fixtures are rescheduled or hubs are needed this season.

All of you having a whinge about WA should do some research... Oh hell. I’ll supply it because you’re either too ignorant or thick. ?

https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/department-of-the-premier-and-cabinet/covid-19-coronavirus-travel-wa

There is no current quarantine period for direct interstate travel so calm the farm for now but we all know one case from either here or elsewhere in Australia will trigger McGowan into another hard on.
I mean hard border.

McGowan won’t be able to resist the power trip of derailing the season, especially after the verbal barbs last season.

The AFL might have to tell Freo and WC to hub somewhere else, and if they don’t like it, talk to their premier.

Is your opinion more significant than the media muppet's that started this BS. Yes, because I'm assuming you barrack for the Dees.

You've had your opinion, I agree with Praha, close this thread "move along, nothing to see here"

It's not going to happen, 2 dipsticks and another in Murphy who should know better just coming up with trash, yet some some seem to believe everything they read or hear.
