Gus Brayshaw will be the newish whipping boy. Won't be playing on the ball much and he'll scrub his first kick under no pressure (on his left for no reason) and DL will melt

Surprise - Harmesy - out of lockdown and out of the HB line and back to his exciting best

Whippy boy probably ,and I hope not Tmac.Big improver to be Chandler seems to matureing and free of injury, surprise packet jones to produce a big effort in his swan song year

i reckon the surprise packet will be the forwards that lead straight up at the ball with this new/old man on the mark rule. it'll have forwards licking their lips, so i'll go for TMac as he's coming off a lower base than most.

the whipping boy will be Lever for the same reasons. i think it's gonna be harder to defend now with quicker ball movement from marks upsetting flooding and zone patterns, so with likely less bombing into stagnant forward lines it means he will probably have to try defend the lead and play 1 on 1 more instead, which is not his strong suit.

I agree Demonstone, why do we need a whipping boy!

We already have a coach!

If you read my training reports, I havent seen anything which pionts to the notion that he will become the S.P. Time will tell.He has trained O.K no more no less.

Well most others have remarked on his bulk and improvement PF.

If I recall you have a set against Charlie so this bias is clouding your judgement.

Lets see now that the practice games are starting on.

Have not read any of the thread to not be biased. I reckon it will be something like.

Surprise Packet - Jackson will come on a lot quicker than anyone thought and show he is more a forward/ruck than ruck/forward

Surprise Packet 2 - Spargo will show the natural footy player he is now that his body and preseasons will let him do what his brain sees he should.

Whipping boy -  Tomlinson. Will get games most of year and no one will understand why as they praise May and Lever dominating.

Well Ok ... Lets see how it pans out but, based on my observations, footy playing and coaching experience lets see how he goes for the year! Forget practice matches, I want to see if he has improved over the season. If he has.... I'll eat "Humble Pie"

If not.. well, you know the rest!

Cant get fairer than that! In my next training report, I will focus on him and report OK??

Well that is an interesting thought given hIs instinct before any other when he is in possession of the pill  is to handball.

Clarry really is the barometer needs to bring his 2018 form with a bit of ex factor.  The only S P he will  be is if he doesn't  perform.

FFS Clayton Oliver has been our BEST player for years. He has performed BEYOND standatd. Lets put pressure on those that have underperformed for years!! With more instinctive and creative champs like Clarry we would be well in the frame

Why do you think l am bagging him? Read my post properly. PF......I am calling him the surprise packet if he doesn't perform.

Read my posts on Clarry I rate him as our best player.  Put your glasses on    P F.       FFS.

Unquestionably our best player. Max, May,next in line! I'll leave it at that!

Isn't there enough negativity in this world? I refuse to put people in a box.

Traditionally the whipping boy plays seniors.

Fine but all season remember !!

There will be no surprise packet. The whipping boy will be Goodwin when he his sacked mid season after we are zero wins from about round 9

And if he is not then thats a MASSIVE FAILURE even by MFC standards. What do you base this statement on???

After another disappointing year by MFC he will seek success elsewhere

A new season just around the corner and I wonder who people thought might be the biggest surprise on our list this season. A draftee? someone who has been in the system a season or two?

For me it could be one of three. Spargo, Chandler or Sparrow. Spargo ha put in a couple of good solid pre-seasons and looks to have built his body well as does Chandler. Will not be surprised to see either of them step up But the biggest improver I think will be Sparrow.

We will, of course, need a replacement for Omac as whipping boy. Last season Melky put his hand up and will be in the running for sure. My favorite for the position is Tomlinson.

My Surprise Packet will be Oskar Baker

and my whipping boy will always be ANB.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
