Great win by the Dees especially considering it was a contender in North. Pearce and Goldrick great down back Hanks, Mithen and Paxman sublime against a star studded midfield and Hore and Parry really good up forward.

Goldrick is a ripper

She makes a few mistakes but jeez she has a crack and is fun to watch. A modern day female Rhino Richards (for those of you who've been around a fair while)

The repeat efforts on the near side flank were incredible. Such leadership and smarts.

She held together the backline that was pretty much just her and sometimes the brilliant but unpredictable Goldrush.

Need to strengthen that group up if we’re to go deep in the comp. Birch struggling. Colvin better but still up and down. Lampard first game back. Edmonson might have to go to the wing and swap with Heath. Or they might need to try the other Irish lass

Shocked Daisy didn’t get named amongst the best.
That last quarter by her was bloody fantastic.

Great win by the girl's team  so proud of them winning and their determination well deserved. At least it makes for a happy week.

Makes the lockdown a little more tolerable.

Don't see that myself. A big, big part of Wight's game was his aerial work. Don't know if Rhino has highlights on the www and can't be arzed looking but like Goldie, he was straight ahead, fearless and fast. Also like Goldie when he got the footy you were never sure what was gonna happen next.

Also - how good to have Maddi Gay back in the team. She is as hard as a cat's head that girl.

Living in Queensland and have not experienced a single lockdown since Covid was foisted upon us.

Move north mate. It really is paradise here.

Just as straight ahead, fearless and fast - and also as what'll-happen-next - as RR but also Irish (yeah, yeah, I know SW was from Scotland) with the black hair. And not so bad in the air?

12 hours later plus a sleep, and I still think that was the best game of AFLW that has been played.

Easily. There have been some good individual team performances but that was the first game I can remember 2 high quality teams going toe to toe and producing that level of performance.

Good match-up today between Crows and Freo. Interested to see whether the game will match the heights of last night. Freo are a balanced outfit were plenty of threat in the forward line. Along with North, ourselves and possibly the Lions one of the best teams in the comp.

I reckon Jimmy would have been proud to see three Dubs on our list and Goldrick playing so well.

Can we not get some for the mens team?!

Absolutely, best game I have seen and I think many neutrals would also agree. Highly entertaining Saturday night viewing, that game warranted a crowd in attendance. It was that bloody good.

From a free flowing and attacking game in the first half from us, to then having to scrap and fight for every contest because a quality opposition is coming at you hard, shows a mental maturity in this group led by Daisy of course when the game was on the line.

It was a proud night for the MFC.

After all of your previous comments on AFLW  I never thought you would either!

Go Demons!

Two things DD.

The skill level has risen considerable ( well with some teams ) I watched part of this years first game.

Being locked up again I was tired of Netflix etc so decided to give it a go.
Result enjoyed it.
prediction there is a lot higher chance of the girls winning a flag than the boys in the next couple of years.

Great game of football, and a fantastic display of the talent that is coming through now.  This justifies our recruiting policy of getting in the young talent this year.  Bannan & McNamara already playing regular games.

But WOW is Goldrick fantastic!  McEvoy similar, but wasn't involved as much.  Cannot wait to see Lauren "Speccie" McGee play alongside them......

Equally important was the contributions of Mithen and Hanks in the middle.  Everyone sees Paxman ( and she is fantastic), but this group was pitched against probably the best mids in the competition and held their own with close to the same number of touches each as Paxman.  Hanks is just turning 21 tomorrow, and Lily is 22.  They will be playing for another 10 years!

We are sitting at the top of the table, and have banked 3 games.  And apart from Petrevski we haven't suffered the injuries which crippled us last year.  And we have more players to return.  All looking good.

Thing is, that percentage is largely because nobody has thought to kick a goal against them.

When be unleash a seven goal blitz in the third quarter this weekend, they won't look so great.

6 in q2. Congratulations on such a good prediction

I thought the same when watching the game. Fast, agile strong. Can play against talls and smalls. Disposals not bad but not elite. Maybe she could be moved forward during parts of the game too

Congratulations to Mick and the girls!

Magnificent win in a " Final in February" clash also without the Casey Doctor that visits every fortnight when we play there.

(In other words any real home advantage was minimised by the perfect weather and ground conditions at Casey Fields.)

Simple  put games on Successive weekends and that confuses the wind  Doctor!!!

Seriously on a lockdown ( sorry again Melburnians ) sat night what a blockbuster to watch after 2 very scrappy but competitive clashes in Sydney ( rain affected to be fair) and at Moorabbin our nearest neighbouring ground.

The standard surpassed all matches (since the finals last  year ) And was one if the Top5 games of AWLW held in the 4 and bit years of that Comp.

And was on Free to Air TV plus Social Media was awash with compliments about the AFLW standard rising from the So called Ashes.

Even D/L Was full of excited posts from cigar smoking whisky sipping couch potatoes revelling in our new found heroes playing footy as it should be played.

Fast furious and connecting leading  to goals!!! More Goals also  in the response plus the Titanic last quarter ( championship quarter no less) and Featuring the defensive skills Of each team As they parried and contested till the siren with the Dees showing their mettle to join the Big 5/6/7 fighting for this years flag.

And the realisation of the Melbourne AFLW strategy of recruiting youth to add to our older heroes,( also discarding or losing some previous ones) that is bearing immediate results just as much as a challenging running handball and  outside game that opens up previous lack of scoring options for our new found smart and clever  Forwards.

This win is one that you  can build a season around with self belief and confidence that you are on the right track and ready to embrace the future challenges no matter what Covid or the Other AFLW provide.

Maybe even kick start belief throughout the Club that if their AFL counterparts can compose a similar run and carry Game Plan With similar commitment and input a season of some magnitude can be replicated.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
