No progress evident on the home base notwithstanding Pert doing some work on it "every day".

Sorry to report learnings have appeared twice now.

Question about fitness and preseason surgery.

Good spot

Oliver had shoulder surgery - already started training not full contact til january

Brayshaw plate removed from foot tomorrow - won't start full training until February

No other major surgeries. Only a few other minor ones but won't impact preseason

Pert believes that if we can consistently play finals and win a premiership then we can get 75,000 and be Debt Free.

No mention how that happens.

I agree with him - the challenge is becoming a consistent finalist/challenger for a prolonged period ala Sydney, Hawks, Cats over last 20 years

Simon Goodwin

  • failed to make finals
  • acknowledged Cairns games as the reason

What was the context of this? Did he just flat out blame Cairns as a location or admit that they flubbed selection and choked against lesser teams?

It happens by winning games of footy.

Interestingly burgess, before responding to a question on surgeries  returned to a previous question from 'james' about the Cairns schmooze and arriving on the day and with a fair bit of feeling said it was certainly not their choice, it was the afl. And noted the opposition had two days prep in Cairns. Sounded pretty annoyed.

Which I'd be prepared to get upset about... if they didn't also play Preuss as a full forward in the rain against Freo.

As a Club we have to stand up and say “no way” to these situations.
i think that is the reason why being unassisted is so important.

He lost it. I hope we haven't cooked him mentally.

It was strange - Hope he is ok. I thought he might be unwell, given he had to grab a tissue.

They mentioned that we had been winning previous games due to crumbing in forward line and were unbalanced with Jackson out. I would also suggest we needed insurance for Gawn given how quickly he came back from injury and what we now know re seriousness.

Maybe a rush of hayfever or something? Seemed fine later on.

The lack of info regarding a new home base and how far along it potentially is doesn’t fill me with confidence. We have a group that will hopefully challenge over the next few years, the much needed ‘elite’ facilities will be a couple of years too late.

It's a myth that you can't challenge without elite facilities.

Brisbane's summer deck  / Facilities are a debacle.

Caught the last 10 minutes or so as they were going through the Q&A and I have to say - big props and hats off to the club for doing this and engaging the supporters in this way. Thought the Q&A might be a bit awkward and clumsy but it was really quite succinct and professionally managed – I really enjoyed seeing other Dees supporters in front of their screens knowing they were as passionate as me and not complete fruit loops. I’m sure the club carefully selected the questions but they were queries I’ve heard a lot about on this site so they haven’t shied away and it appears they might have made some ‘learnings’ along the way - only time will tell I guess.

Love this club and it was nice hearing from the people entrenched within it that they are working as hard as I hope they are. Go Dees.

Don't hold your breath. I think it is still years away. They have moved to Casey for pre season training because the ground is bigger. That days to me it will not happen anytime soon. Could be at Casey for years IMO.

They have moved to Casey for 2021 due to covid as far as I can tell. You're right it will be years away because by the time they select the site and actually begin work on it it will be at least another 12 months. If they get it right I don't care if it takes a few years rather than a few months. Get it done and get it done properly.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
