  • Demonland changed the title to Welcome to Demonland - Picks 18 & 19

Not sure what we're up to but I like it. Don't think we're done yet either, we now have 18, 19 and 28 and 50 in this years draft and we're only missing a first round from next year which we can always trade back into.

The good thing about getting this done early is we have more control over our destiny. For an example, if we waited Essendon might have tempted Brisbane with either pick 7 or 8 and the split assets might have been used elsewhere to get other deals done. Now clubs can come to us to negotiate.

Keen to pickup two obscure players originally predicted to go in the mid 30's in the draft...

In all seriousness...loving it

Totally agree. Let all the loudmouth clubs like Carlton, Bombers and Saints strut around being linked to everybody, whilst we just quietly go about some very good business.

1. Gambling on good ladder finishes that seem unlikely
2. Giving away good 2nd round picks for short term wins - Frost, Hibberd, Melksham, the Howe trade to get the Weid pick
3. Develop a list heavy on top end talent but with huge holes

4. Profit?

What is he doing

I thought it was a poor draft and we need ready to go players

I admit I am confused

I thought they didn't rate this years draft?

Reckon covid has really changed things where there will a strong deviation to where clubs rate players 6 through 20. So they may have thought players they previous rated in the top 10 may drift out due to the lack of exposure. My theory anyway.

Half the draft pool hasn't played and another half is tied up with other clubs so how could you rate this draft?

At the same time - we're in a window right now with Gawn, May, Oliver, Petracca - to really win some games. We can't be sitting back waiting.

And the available trade talent is mostly poor or overpriced.

Another Jackson, Pickett, Rivers draft with some short term results and a pathway to strong medium term success for both the young guys and the side is our best way out of this mess.

So it appears we're diving in to the deep end of the most compromised draft in recent history. Over to you Jason Taylor.

Taylor clearly likes 1 or 2 players that are likely to go early. Wouldn't be surprised if McCrae has been thrown out there as a bit of a bluff and maybe we're looking at someone like Perkins? Pure speculation on my part, but interesting times ahead.

we need the Dunkley deal to go through. if that happens 18 and 19 are worth more than any one of 6, 7 or 8

no club is stupid enough to use the AFL Draft Value Index as a trade guide.

Isn’t 2021 meant to be the draft loaded up with talent? Interesting choice to be giving away our first rounder but the club has earned the faith on these matters. Perhaps we will trade our way back in.

Yep. I found it odd that we had leaked.

Or... we have positioned ourselves to trade up on draft night

Non-issue, we'll trade out our future 2022 pick to get back in

It matters if the club involved needs to use points.
