So the real thing starts tomorrow with the start of the free agency period and the question is what will be the first done deal?

Past years ~

2017: Jackson Trengove joins Western Bulldogs (Friday)

2018: Reece Conca joins Fremantle (Friday)

2019: Gold Coast’s offer for RFA Brandon Ellis (Friday)

The first trades in those years were ~

2017: Jake Lever’s move from Adelaide to Melbourne (Thursday)

2018: Lincoln McCarthy’s move from Geelong to Brisbane (Monday)

2019: Tim Kelly’s move from Geelong to West Coast (Wednesday)

If Smith isn't to come to us I'm not going to be overly devastated as long as we have someone else we're chasing to fill in that role, even if they aren't necessarily as good right now.

Smith will be the short term solution, I'd see us getting almost 2 top quality years from him and the third almost being a mentorship role.

Something frustrating about the cats being the ones to land him that would just make it a little more annoying, I hate losing to them in any way including them managing to entice a player over us.

How is it that Bombers know already they will get Pick 7 from the AFL, when no contract has been lodged with the AFL. The secret compensation formula and advice has obviously been used to help Bombers and Lions. Bombers get top pick and Lions get him free. AFL at its best.

Haven't done the maths, but does Isaac Smith going to Geelong bring their average age up or down?

Who is BJ?   Shocker of a lineup.

The only best 22 that matters is from the master himself  @WERRIDEE

Harmes?

Bit of a worry that a guy on a long term deal isn’t best 22.

It's either him or Jones I decided on Jones get his 300 hundred out of the way.

I figured that would be the alternative for a spot on the IC. I still have high hopes for Harmes.

As expected on the first day of the 2020 Free Agency Period saw plenty of activity -

* The first completed deal saw  Rory Atkins join the Suns as an unrestricted free agent. Atkins will sign a four-year deal with a trigger for a fifth at Gold Coast. The Crows will receive an end of second round pick for Atkins

* Hawthorn's triple premiership wingman Isaac Smith will join Geelong as a free agent The Hawks receive Round 3 compensation selection, currently 42.

* Carlton lodging the paperwork for the Giants' Zac Williams. The transfer will be finalised within days.

* Richmond defender Oleg Markov has requested a trade away from the Tigers to the Suns.

* Giants' defender Aidan Corr has officially received an offer to join North Melbourne as a restricted free agent. The 26-year-old will return home to Victoria and sign a deal worth as long as five years. GWS will receive a second-round compensation pick.

* Mitch Cleary reports - "A lot of the Ben Brown meeting with Melbourne was centered around Darren Burgess and what he can do for his fitness". Essendon the only other suitor for Brown's signature.

* GWS Giants have confirmed Zac Langdon's decision to join West Coast

* Sam Edmund advocates that the Giants should take the risk on Jesse Hogan.

* Lots happening behind the scenes at Collingwood. There seems to be little hope of reconciliation between Adam Treloar and the Pies while Jaidyn Stephenson looks like playing elsewhere in 2021.

* The AFL has received paperwork for Essendon’s Restricted Free Agent Joe Daniher to sign with the Brisbane Lions and is currently processing the details.

Late News - Bombers get National Draft Pick # 7 for Daniher. They should be doing cartwheels.

Scam. Three year deal is not worth first round compo.

Even bigger worry that Petty and Lockhart and Harmes and Spargo are not there Hore is not flexible snd Salem is no good in a back pocket

Will do mine tonight or tomorrow .

Pretty accurate, but still a worry with a one dimensional midfield, need more outside run / flare.
Hope MFC can deliver.

Lots of water to go under the bridge yet. Ben Brown, Phillips, Polec, Treloar,  Brodie Smith, Jack Higgins, Webster etc. Still too early for best 22's I'd suggest.

I forgot we have Petty, Jackson and maybe Brown  to cover for the loss of Pruess, and the Macs

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
