I so hope you're right. Surely we couldn't have this happen again could we.

A mate with no contacts so just his idea that Jackson hasn't signed to extend his contract while Kossie & Rivers have so he thinks he's probably out the door end of next season in which case we'll get a first rounder or two for him. Plus rumours about Oliver wanting out won't go away so maybe 2 first rounders for him as well next year.

Wait what, well that's just put a downer on the night

Not many kids leave after 2 years, out of interest who manages him?

It's not a lock. 'Flighty' was the word I heard that described where he's at. Not saying he's gone of course, but it's not totally safe.

Let's just hope they are holding off to see what the TPP ends up being post Covid and where the club ends up with it's salary cap after trade week. See if they create some space before they finalise a deal with him. I always thought Hogan was going to go. I'm more confident about Jackson. Based on......? The vibe.

Horrifying if he doesn't re sign

It looks like we aren't landing a back up ruckman with 30 minutes to go in the trade period. We'll most likely pick up a delisted free agent. Could Sam (sauce) Jacobs be a chance with us next year? He was interviewed last week and mentioned he still has a year or two left in the tank.

I think Andrew Phillips is as good as locked in for that role.

We've just got to have such a good year next year that we are irresistible. Keep him and attract others. If I had to pick I'd rather keep him than Oliver. I reckon he's a cause of cultural issues. Over inflated ego. Would we take Kelly for Oliver? I think so. Not saying that's even in contemplation.

There's a whole big chat to be had there I reckon, gonna save it for the offseason dead time...

Are Jackson and Rivers close mates?
Or do they have nothing much to do with each other aside from both being from WA?

Very close mates. I think Rivers last year when drafted called him his best mate. Went through junior juniors as little kids all the way to Demons.

Look forward to that. I fear that if he doesn't sign reasonably early next year this will become a deafening roar.

For a pick in the 60s, according to Mitch

Insanity.

Dunkley stays at the Dogs.

Jezza got to the Cats.

Sounds like Treloar might stay at the Pies (trade info can still come in tho).

Amazed that the Treloar deal didn't get done.

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
