We've turned 25, 68 and 69 into 18 and 19, at a cost of having to slide back from our 2021 first rounder to Brisbane's 2021 second rounder.

At worst, that's a slide back of 35 draft spots. At best that's a slide of 1 spot.

We'll be backing ourselves in to do well next year but Brisbane will too, which means in all likelihood we're sliding back 10-20 spots next year.

Is that worth it to get 18 and 19 in this year's draft? Maybe we have a plan to use 18 and 19.

So we effectively split our future first in to 18 and 19, and swap 25 and some trash for a future second (Could be 30-36 ish).

I don't mind it. Could backfire, but at least we are being bold

I would assume we're now going to give 2 late first rounders for 1 top 10 pick...

I reckon we've got 1 more trade in us with those picks..

What have the Dogs offered for Treloar? 2nd or 3rd round with them paying max $600k per season?

Could we do a 'Mitch Clarke' and one up them at 11th hour?  ?

Craefishing maybe...?

Not sure what we're up to but I like it. Don't think we're done yet either, we now have 18, 19 and 28 and 50 in this years draft and we're only missing a first round from next year which we can always trade back into.

The good thing about getting this done early is we have more control over our destiny. For an example, if we waited Essendon might have tempted Brisbane with either pick 7 or 8 and the split assets might have been used elsewhere to get other deals done. Now clubs can come to us to negotiate.

Which we can always split draft night if our guy looks like sliding e.g last year.

I'm loving our pick trading. We never have a future first, but get back into drafts by trading futures.

If you package 19 and 28 that is worth the same amount of points as pick 7 - so for those who need more points, we are very attractive right now.

do we package up 18 and 19 for a pick in the top 10 maybe?

Rather the two late picks

I think there is one more player trade to be done in the next hour.

50/50 in my book.

I'm hearing 18 and 19 for Josh Dunkley.

:roos:

19+ 28 for 14

Take 14 and 18 to the draft

18,19 and Tmac to the Bombers for pick 8.... let them throw a couple of picks at Dunkley

I think so too. Otherwise why do this now rather than on draft night?

This amazing, ?

God, I hope not with any of those picks.

Just checked the NGA / Father sons. There probably arent that many in the top 20 that will be NGA father sons - maybe 5? So there arent a lot of people that we can trade with to get up the order. It is really only Dogs, unless someone wants to move back.

Mahoney said that there is likely to be people that different clubs rate because of the weird year that end up dropping a little lower - so plenty of options for us on the board.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
