If true that Treloer wants to spend several day every week up in Q to be with his missus then I question his commitment. Not what we need ATM.

I think this story came from the Collingwood spin machine.

So far they are losing the battle...even with their own supporters.

Obviously, which is why he finished top 3 in their B&F three times in 4 years.

If the filth took on all of McDonald's contract, then I'd be happy for us to take on all of Treloar's contract for the first two years (length of Tom's contract). But for years 3-5 Collingwood should be forced to pay the money that's owed and we just cover what his base contract was supposed to be.

This is still high risk for us.  We will be paying out about $200-$300k more for the first two years.  And we will be paying Treloar about $700k p.a for years 3-5 when he will be in his early 30's and past his best.

Treloar is no wingman. He’s a dead set rover. Was a gun three years ago but I dunno if he is now. Seems to have lost a little speed

If he has lost some pace then his quality as a player has dropped by 20%, sometimes you can forgive a player with poor disposals, if he can get the ball moving fast into the forward line, nothing worse then a slow mid who can't kick.

If the details of his back ended contract are correct then I hope everyone leaves Collingwood to their own mess.

The idea of them paying 200k of the contract is severely unders...they would need to stump up a hell of a lot more than that if the figure is running up to $1mill a year.

It's reportedly $900K for the next 5 years.

If Collingwood paid $300K for the next 5 years Treloar costs you $600K.  And he makes you better.

Is that the level of your analysis ?

Sorry Hannibal. I was being a smart [censored]. I should have used a smiley emoji or similar

But seriously his kicking is average. If we're to invest precious cap it needs to be elite imv. He may spread well but if he doesn't use it well then i don;t think it makes much difference. Even if he's average and we somehow agree reasonable contract terms (big if) we shouldn't take him on. Find someone elite who can make a real difference if we're going to go through all the hassle.

Yep, Treloar butchers every kick forward and his pace and spread from a stoppage is not something the MFC needs.

Hi @Hannibal Inc., I'm neither here nor there with Adam Treloar, however you've gone with the highlights package and inherent within that is 0 errors to be viewed.

Far more meaningful would be the Statspro App of his games via the AFL website.

Man, having watched just a handful of his games this morning, eyeballing him, he goes barely better at 50% retaining the ball on his delivery. If I knew how to convert what was on my screen into a video that was able to be viewed, I'd forward it on to this thread.

Ultimately, though the question for all us backseat FD department decision makers is... does his limitations outweigh what he brings?

Oh..and are his hamstring shot?

Oh and what is his character like? ?

You could make a highlight package of ANB and he won't miss a target, he will hit someone on the chest at lest once a game.

Whatever works to fit your narrative m8.

Collingwood have wanted him out for two seasons now. Maybe think about why rather than presenting a highlights package and some questionable D/E stats to try and prove your point.

His hammy are shot, there is obviously something missing in his game since his serious hammy issues, the pies know something that people on the outside don't know about, you don't get rid of a gun for any reason, Dangerfield has been on 900000 since he got to Geelong.

For this deal to be worthwhile there needs to be some non-negotiables for mine

Phillips (or another specialist wingman) is the preference. He fills a greater need so wouldn’t prioritise Treloar over Tom.

$450-$550k salary. Term 3-4 years

Must not compromise our TPP. We have to be able to re-sign Clarry et all.

I’m not against trading out Brayshaw if needs be for a game changer but not to accommodate this deal.

Thorough medical. Those hammy’s are a concern.

His family situation doesn’t impact his football.

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that last year was an aberration and his output will return to pre-covid levels.

Way way too much hassle imv.

Collingwood does not give away good players, there is more to this than  we are aware of. If he is such a great player they why is Collingwood is still having trouble selling him to teams that a desperate for a player like Treloar. For some reason this reminds me of Melbourne's recruitment of Kelvin Templeton, if i had a vote it would be no thanks.

I agree the hamstrings are an issue.  But if you can just answer one question.  If his kicking is as bad as suggested how would he have been rewarded with 3 top 3 B&F finishes in the 4 years prior to this season ?

Also, have you ever laid eyes on him and watched him play ?

2 hours ago, Pollyanna said:

If we want him we'll need to clear midfield cap space - that means Brayshaw or maybe Harmes traded.

You'd have to entertain it for Gus. Harmes can play forward as well as mid. Gus can only play mid and at a pinch half back.

The talk of Treloar's kicking and his two way running is ridiculous.

We add him to our midfield and it's a Rolls Royce. I reckon we massively overthink things in these parts at times. Oliver, Petracca and at a stretch Viney are better players, otherwise Treloar walks in to our best 22.

If the price is right, 2021 is the year. We need to be aggressive this off season.

Typically I only to see Melbourne games but this year, with the boredom of lockdown, I’ve watched pretty much every game in the league. As such, my perception is heavily biased towards this year.

What do you think is the right price AF?

The contract is too big. The Filth have “put off” paying the bulk of it 2-3 times and now they are confronted with a massive payout.
let them squirm for as long as possible

They drew up the contract

I'm for that. "We'll pay you later, we'll pay you later, we'll now ship you out" they got themself into this mess.

Something that still enables us to sign up the Oliver's and Petracca's to new deals when they come around.

Are his hammies ok? The club would do DD and we have Burgo to build on his strength

Is the contract too much? Only the club will know that and they'll be aware of next year's OOC players. Tmac staying/going may affect this

Does he pass the No DH rule? Does that even exist anymore? The club will do its DD

Is he talented enough? Hell yeah!

Does he meet a need and improve our list? Again, hell yeah!

Does he want to come to us? Who knows except him and maybe MFC

Assuming the report on his hammies is ok, my view is LET'S GET HIM!

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
