No I don't think he is.

I actually like what OD has to say most of the time, although I think missing the finals and lock down has pushed him over the edge a little.

Subjectively he would have to be in the bottom four.

Fixed it for you.

Goodloss?

You're better than that, OD.  Be critical as much as you like, but no need to pull this five year old stuff out.

Jeez the Church of England brigade are out in force on this thread! Good loss, bad loss are very mild terms and pretty low on the offence scale. Also happen to suit our gormless coach perfectly.

The club look like they’ll provide new assistants and are trading for players that will improve the team. He’ll be given everything he needs to succeed. No more talk of learnings, being ruthless blah blah. Its time for Goodwin to prove himself (past time in fact).

Starts winning and the badloss references go away otherwise harmless nicknames will be the least of his worries.

What a great song! Never heard it before and wouldn’t in a million years have listened to if not posted here. Thanks.

Dr that proves nothing it assume from the start they have the same ability.

Of course it proves nothing but I don't think Dr was saying it did.  Just the obvious one that people were calling for Hardwick head before he got to where he is now and maybe, just maybe, the same may happen to Goodwin.  Was there any evidence that Hardwick had more ability than Goodwin at a similar stage? If not Dr's 'assumption'  was perfectly reasonable.

So what is the time frame for you?  5 years, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10?

Sorry I don't understand why you asked that.  I don't recall addressing how long we should give Goodwin in my post if that is what you are asking.  I was just pointing out Dr's remark about Hardwick being under the pump earlier on may be relevant to Goodwin's position.

But if you are asking that, I'd think Goodwin better show some very clear progress in 2021.  But if someone has the stats on the number of Richmond fans calling for Hardwick's head year by year and when he started to come good, I am open to reconsidering.

It's not about being offensive so much as being lame

It depends on results. If we don't make finals next year he should be gone. If we finish top 4 and make it to the Prelims or better he should stay. It's not about length of tenure it's about performance.

Amen.

Just think OD is better than that.

Edit - clearly some don't think he is.  Thoughts @old dee?

Exactly what I suggesting. Clearly IMO under performed this year. Way back my original comment was the he won't be the coach for 9 years if we don't I think I said dont win a flag. But he has to at least make a GF. The MFC is a small club we will not  survive on promises for the next five years.

I think there is a chance that Pert's email about the review was prompted by realising Hawthorn were about to announce Yze's departure to Melbourne (I recall this hqppened the next day, and they mentioned his destination, not just that he was leaving).

Why else would you announce the review one day, then a new apointment the next, before the review was complete?

Simon has had a good go, and if by the way that other Clubs have been idolized by the Media for just how good they are to getting to the Preliminary Finals like Port and Brisbane, even though we lost by a truckload, there is obvious consideration and satisfaction to making it that far.

In his heart i would think that this coming year is it for him, with everything in his favour, including a maturing team and an ample supply of experience solidly in his corner post Covid Cup....

On a side note it was patently obvious that our AFL CEO looked absolutely #nackered in that op last night.

Time for Gil to move aside. He has had his time in sun on a big salary.

Ok. I’ll try not to be lame but I make no promises ?

No matter what you think of him I think people have to respect the fact he/the AFL has been able to get a season up and finished. You can see by looking at him he is working himself to the limit, at least give him some respect.

This review is taking a while. Our season finished 4 weeks ago. Not much noise either. Surely if Mahoney was being let go it would have been announced by now. Plus trade period is rapidly approaching.

Adem Yze is a great additional but we need more. I guess now that Port are out we can talk to Voss so hopefully there’ll be developments there.

If Mahoney is to finish it will be after the draft and trade period

Gil has been CEO since 2014.

I think he will be gone at the end of 2021 (volountarily pushed) as the game looks to recover and move on in the post covid world. Different skills are required in what will be a non expansionary market.

It will be lead by the clubs who are now calling for the enquiry.

That's how I see it too DJ.

I think OD has an excellent point.

This year has underlined the need to be a progressive, aggressive club. We can't afford to be like north. The time is now, we are all getting older. Only the strongest will survive.

We need the best coaches and the best list manager. Im still not sure what our "brand" is

But it pizzes me off that Carlton seems to have so much love. I have felt sorry for them!

IMO he has failed miserably with the way the game looks. I watch the Tigers game and last night. The game looks terrible just a squabble between half forward line with low scoring. And these are the best four teams in the comp.

Same thing was said about Hardwick.

Whatever anyone thinks about Hardwick, and I do not like him at all.

He has proven to be a competent and able coach. It took a while perhaps,

but he is good at what he does, coaches footballers.

He has no idea what to do with perceived criticism. Still don't like him but he can coach

Actually, I think it's a dad joke that needs steroids.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
