Typical MFC with bombs going of every were!

1 Players [censored] @ 3/4 time

2 bennel breach

3 Missed finals

When will this club ever not make the news for the wrong reasons... just a train wreck as usual

Posted

Our season ended with a covid breach, inappropriate touching and we missed the finals.

However there are positives, May and Lever clicked in the backline, rivers was a great get, Jackson will be a key player for us and petracca stepped up a gear.

Positives.

The breakout year of Petracca

the return to form of Steven May

the inclusion of Ed Langdon

the 3 draftees all look the goods.

Negatives.

Still have a senior coach with no idea what he's doing.

22 individuals, not a team

horrific selections and way too many changes week to week

little to no sign of improvement in the same areas that have been killing us for years

Simon Goodwin hasn't been sacked yet.

A damning assessment but sadly true!

Reasons for Deespair

1. Lack of fight when we really needed it. Pathetic.

2. Brand of footy? I still have no idea what that means

3. Coaches/Selectors making drastic and dumb changes in either of the must win games in Cairns.

4. Lack of development/improvement. Brayshaw, Harmes, Lever, Spargo, Weid, Baker, OMac, Sparrow, Bedford, Hannan, Hunt, Smith. None of these players have improved.

5. TMac/Jones/Nev are all cooked.

6. Way too many list cloggers, not enough room on this thread...

Reasons for a Whinge

1. Essendon game being postponed. A bye would've been nice.

2. Having to go from Alice to Cairns in 4 days resulting from the above

3. Jacko going down. That didn't help when we just started seeing "Cohesion"....

4. Brisbane game. Hmmm, few decisions cost us badly in that one.

5. Bloody Covid

6. Injuries to Petty, Jordan, Hore. I think they can all play.

Reasons for Optimism

1. Petracca, breakout year. Outstanding.

2. May. My new favourite player. Huge, tough, and most of all hates losing.

3. Rivers. Liked him from day 1. Looks to have all the attributes. Lock him in.

4. Jackson. Will scare opposition coaches. Hard to match up on. Lookout when he's got 50 games under his belt.

5. Kozi. Wasn't sold on him but his is work rate is outstanding. Experience will get him in the right spots and if we end up with a proper forward line someday he'll know where to be. Expectations too high in 1st year. He'll be fine.

6. Fritsch. Yes he's a bit arrogant and can't kick straight but he's a fantastic kick when up the ground. Elite numbers for score involvements and 7th in the league for goal assists. Kicked 22.24 and probably a few on the full. That's a good year considering our forward line structure seems to change week to week.

7. Langdon. A very solid year. Best gut runner we've had in decades. Get's to the right spots and tries his heart out. If we can improve his kicking technique he can become elite.

8. Oliver. Yes had some horror games disposal-wise but kept at it and had some very good games by foot and hand. He copped some real abuse both internally and externally in a tough season for everyone mentally. He gets marked by the opposition every week and deserves a pat on the back for not going into his shell when most would have.

9. Lockhart. I think he has a future down back and expecting him to improve next year. Bit to learn but gives his all and tries to show dash and break open play. Rather that than negative players who dish off and transfer the pressure.

10. Mitch Brown. Might be getting too optimistic here but i thought his last 2 games were terrific. With the possibility of TMac being traded we need a swing man. He is quite smart with the footy in hand. Worth another year unless we pull off some shrewd trading.

11. Weideman. Clutching here but can play at times. I think he can improve with a better set up/forwards coach. His last chance.

One of Demonlands posts of the year . Very astute observations

I'll be pleasantly surprised If Weideman ever kicks 40-50 goals.

In a 22 game season you are looking for an average of 2 per game, I think with the right delivery the right forward set up he can kick 2 a game.

Not finishing 9th and saying "oh good, we jumped up from bottom 2", when we never ever should have finished that low to begin with.

When the facts don't fit your agenda.

I think our list is actually ok.  It's all above the shoulders for mine.  When we play poorly, it seems to me to be the effort, composure and concentration of our best 10 or 15 players (the ones who are automatic selections if fit) that cause it, not the ability of the players who were in and out of the team all year.

Get the players heads right, and I think we'll improve.

Not sure if I want to influence them!

I will let them do their jobs.

Hopefully, they do what they believe is the right thing.

The Bartlett spray would indicate that they are not to happy.

Keep progressing MFC.

We are getting closer.

56 years and getting closer at this rate we will get there about 2064 when we are all in the ground.

Sure, this is all important stuff, but Goody has said all year our problems are easily fixed.

Let me be a pedant @Half forward flank - as I'm all about evidence base and empirical research.

Can you link me into a quote of his for where he said 'easily fixed' or words to that effect?

After 6 months of Covid,hubs,3 games in 9 days,we miss the finals by a Solitary kick of the Football.

Against the Cats,we had a set shot with 15 seconds to go in the match, ball slides left of the Goalpost for a point and we lose by 3.

1 Kick, that's how close we came!!!

We have a better list than the Bulldogs, but they beat us and Freo

Considering from 2010-20,only the Suns have won less games than us,not surprising.

Agree with the sentiments.

I don't know the answers.

Hoping those who get paid, do!

Well if the dogs beat us and We could not beat either of them  that screams at me that do not have a better list than the dogs.

Best case scenario on what he's shown so far 30 goals max.

They used the injury excuse last year but luckily they cant use that this year. I knew that excuse last year was bs and it infuriated me to hear it

There are zero excuses this year. Virtually a full list to choose from all year.

I believe a couple of things stuffed up our season.

Playing in the heat in the NT and then two games in a row in putrid conditions in a wet windy Cairns.

The terrible form and leadership of senior forwards like Melksham and McDonald who basically forced us to depend on a young inexperienced group of forwards, until  Mitch Brown came in, which was too late.

There were plenty of positives though, with the form of Petracca and May, the fabulous inclusion of Langdon, and the debuts of three of the best kids we’ve had in a long time in Jackson, Rivers and Pickett.

If we can pick up a Saad , a decent forward and another winger along with playing most games in Melbourne, we should surge ahead.

You are dreaming! He is looking like a major fail to me

What is going to change for him to kick 40+ next year

Coaching? Connection? will he get stronger will he get fiercer

What will change????

I just think he showed for all but the last 4 games he was heading in right direction despite the poor skills kicking into our 50m arc.  Still kicked 19 goals from 13 games so really only needs another 21 from 9 more games.

Cairns was a nightmare for all tall forwards.

plus the 5/6 he gave off throughout the season. So lets go for 25 goals from 13 games. There's your just shy of two average.

What email did you send it to? I will be sending a letter also.

The only one you can send to is the general email addressed to the chairman.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
