We desperately need a gun key forward

Yes, they would be wanting some strong bodies to support Cripps, absolutely no would they be offering up either of their two potentially gun key forwards.  After McKay and Curnow they've got McGovern and Casboult then fringe players. Their game style also loves being able to push a long leading tall well out on a long lead to then bang it to another tall target inside 50, so there's plenty of room in their forward line.

What Carlton would like in the middle is a couple more Ed Curnows on the cheap, not any need for more outright guns.  A couple of years ago we might have been able to slip the Dom Tyson for something handy, but right now we actually don't have much in the way of strong, mature-bodied midfielders who are supportive grinders rather than centre of attention.

We need to stop chasing guys like Cameron. We've seen with McDonald how quickly the end can some for older players.

We scored over 88 points 4 times this season, 3 of those weid and LJ played in, and in 4 of the 5 games they played together at least one of them kicked multiple goals. Where we fall down is midfield goals, tracs right up there but the rest are way below average

Some Good points Dr D and Pollyanna about our age group which  most stars this year are coming  into their prime AFL lifetime and games.

Youth is looking good with 2019 3 guns Plus Locky and 2018 listers inc Sparrow Jordan and Spargo from 2017 and Weid  A little older.

BUT as I keep repeating all or most of these need to keep developing fast for or us to get into a premiership window.

That improvement if supplemented with Petty plus Ben Brown say (or Daniher or Gunston  ) Polec or a Giants young mid or small Or Narkle  from Cats AND Saad or Will Brodie from Suns ie 3 ready made niche selections fir desperate needs any thing is possible from 2021 on. Most if not all are in the frame I or gettable and suit our team.

The shining  example To all what's required in fitness etc is Trac and how a new player can improve is Ed Langdon.Work is required on fitness and skills and  greater game plan.

I'll preface this by saying I have 0 mail on this and doubt we are interested anyway. But logically, given Curnow's injury history, I think they would be open to a deal if the right one came up. That was essentially our reasoning behind trading Hogan. We realised we could get May so we got we let Hogan go. Carlton again is linked to quite a few players, if they need a deal done and we came knocking (and Curnow was open to the idea) then they'd have to consider it.

Tmac was 26 last year when it went downhill for him. At 32 Tom Hawkins is in fine form.

I find the TMac situation interesting.

On the one hand, if he really is cooked (due to injuries etc) then surely he next to no value as anyone we trade him with is going to do their own medical assessments and come to that conclusion themselves.

On the other hand, if he is not cooked, then given the shorter games this year and the fact that endurance has previously been his weapon, maybe  there's more upside going forward.  

 

He's not suited to the backline - decision making / kicking makes him a liability but I've been a fan of him forward since he was moved there.  But the last two years he has looked more and more like mechano man ben holland in terms of agility.
 

Can he recover?  Or is he done?

Would like to think he can get back but not sure. Was he playing injured or sore? Or have the previous injuries left him slower with limited mobility ?

He is 28. To be honest the only way he is worth anything on the trade table is if he is deemed fit by a medical.

By this reasoning if he can pass a medical for another club it should mean he can get back to, or close to his best. 

So, I know the logic sounds strange but if he is worth trading, he is worth keeping!

Tommy getting fit and near his best would make a big difference. When your sore, less mobile and not getting the rewards your confidence drops and you take less marks, kick less goals and confidence drops further.

I'd back Tommy in. Super guy and great athlete when fit. If he can get back in shape could use him as a set up player on the wing like Riewoldt used to do.

Ben Brown is a no brainier for me. Excellent forward at an undervalued price. Go hard Dees!

Jeremy Cameron is also excellent, but will be overpriced.

Joe Daniher an absolute no.

I use to like the idea of poaching back Hogan at a lower price (end of 2021), however, his attitude stinks and I'd rather see him stay west.

* Yes he can be, but conversely when he's on he's an absolute joy. I do believe in the importance of culture for long-term success (both from the club to players and players towards the club) and I think it's important he stays.

* Brayshaw is overrated. He's a one-dimensional midfielder that gets the ball, takes two-steps, and throws in on the boot. He should be used as currency on the trade table.

* Fritsch isn't killing the team, must I remind you he was our leading goal kicker. The lack of two quality tall fowards is doing this. Fritsch is an excellent third / medium forward. Yes his kicking at goal can improve, but right now he's a valuable player to have.

In regards to a key forward,

Hogan left because he was homesick and wanted to head back to WA, whispers about him being 'open' to his career being elsewhere. If his body is sound, and we now have Darren Burgess on board, Sure I'd be open to Ben Brown, but I would prefer Hogan returning, even with the baggage that is known.
