Lost the babe weight immediately.

We’re too far away from being a contender to bring in a 32 year old. Could have been insurance if we were, but alas were not, so it’s a no from me.

Agree that we are no position to bring in Smith. Wouldn't be on my wish list, but stranger things have happened!

I've not initiated quoting you since you got me a ban. I've asked you twice to put me on ignore

Please do not quote me. I will no longer quote you. Honestly, how hard is it?

Let it go buddy

Again. Stop quoting me.

Please either put each other on ignore or you can both go.

I don’t usually do this publicly but I’m sick of you guys all whinging to me about each other.

May I ask what caused the duplicate? Did you mistakenly hit the Quote button where the Edit button used to be (now the 3 horizontal dots above the right side of your post)?

Yep that was it. Although I’ve used the 3 dots to edit a few times, muscle memory got me on this occasion and I tapped the usual spot to edit and quoted myself.

Happening to me too on occasion. I was worried there was some software or server related issue that was causing these "double posts". Glad it's just user error (muscle memory as you so eloquently put it) as a result of the new version of the software's new placement of edit and report functions.

Not sure why they made such a drastic change but there is nothing I can do about it.

Better than misquoting yourself methinks

From AFL.com regarding Smith.

Ideally searching for a two-year contract and it could still come at Hawthorn. But Smith admitted on RSN radio this week he wasn't 100 per cent sure what his future held. Carlton and Melbourne are among the parties having a look at the triple premiership wingman who turns 32 in December but is only 10 years into his career.

On paper I dont mind it, however the club would have to be dead certain about contending within the next 2 or so years to justify brining a player in of his age on half decent money and for a half decent pick (I doubt Hawks would let him go for anything less than a 2nd and we don't have much to spare). Smith does look like he's slowing down a bit and injury at back end of this season may be a bit concerning. We certainly could do worse, however I'd rather we spent that 2nd round pick looking at a much higher priority like a Key Forward. Pass for mine.

I prefer Smith to Polec. While he is older, I think he’s better and think he’s likely to be able to have a very long career.

Smith is a free agent.

My mistake ! Thanks for that. If we can get him in for a reasonable price I wouldnt mind it in that case.

hawks won't ask for a 2nd rounder for a 32 yr old

His a UFA. No pick required.

His Leadership will be more valuable than his output on the field, of which he will still offer a lot

I don’t think I could handle more leadership from a 30+ Hawk on a superannuation contract.

Understandable, but he doesn’t seem quite so invested in himself as Lewis was.

Long and accurate kick with a bit of pace - hard to argue against?

I’d be worried his pace might not last at 32 and length was always the strong point of his kicking. He’d get some long kicks in quickly but I wouldn’t expect him to hit many short leads

Too old. Injuries will hit soon.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
