Way too much Yze talk in this thread.  If he wasn't a great past Demon player he would barely get mentioned.

I know that because no assistant coaches from other clubs ever get brought up.

Came very close to getting the Adelaide job, and someone else mentioned here they heard he nearly got the Freo job.

Credited with greatly improving the kicking skills at the Hawks, worked his way up to being strategy coach.

Kicking skills and strategy would be pretty much the first things on the wish list for most of us I reckon.

Personally I don't think he's quite ready to be senior coach for us, but I can't imagine a better fit for an assistant coach, possibly with the view that he's the successor to an experienced coach we name.

Couldn't care less he's a former Demon.

I am not sold that Goodwin must go unless there is clearly an improved position for both development and list management. That to me is Clarkson or hold. If not then the club in a weird 17 x shortened game year played completely away from home would want to be certain that Goodwin cannot take us further under new normal circumstances. If that was the case under no circumstances would I want an untried coach. I would want someone who has learnt in a strong current system and who exhudes success and leadership. That to me would be Voss.

Ok I mean bringing him in as senior coach, he gets more mentions than anyone else well maybe equal with Clarko and Ross Lyon.

Would love him as an assistant.

Ah yep, fair call. As much as I think Yze will make a great senior coach at some stage, it doesn't feel like a good idea at all for us to bring in someone no absolutely proven should we move Goodwin on.

If we had to go down the Yze track then he at least has to have a senior adviser with him to help him in that role. A bit like what Fagan was to Daniher/Clarkson.

None of these Alan Richardson failed types.

I thought Brendan McCartney was perfect until Craig Jennings decided to put his nose out of the joint.

No coincidence that our development has turned to [censored] without McCartney...

Ross would be better than Goodwin is a fact. He has football coaching intelligence and can get the most out of a group of players. We have talent but no cohesion, system or standards required

Lyon and Roos are good mates, wonder what they discuss behind the scenes re Goodwin and Dees. Lyon would have some good intel imo, anyway random thought.

He never seemed very bright.

Agree with all you say except Voss

If I recall correctly Roos wanted to take Stuart Dew from Sydney to groom him for the head coach role before he decided on Goodwin. I often wonder where we’d be if he had arrived. I’ve watched the Gold Coast a few times this year. They compete hard for a young group, they’re organised, play for each other and have bags of talent (Tell me who’s a more exciting young player in the league than Izak Rankine). They are definitely on the right track.

Of course if he’s successful on the Gold Coast the AFL would never let him leave for another club.

He decided on Goodwin because Dew turned the role down.

Director of coaching does not work in fact it can be an insult to the head coach. I remember Carlton had a director of coaching possibly two other club. and guess what they were failures.

But the boys love Goody, don't you know ??

How can they possibly get rid of him ??

Incorrect.

Sydney wouldn't release him from his current contract.

Yep, you're right there.  I always remember him signing the new three year deal which officially put him out of the running.

The search and meeting with Dew was the end of 2013 to start straight away but his contract with Sydney did not expire until the end of 2014.

At that time there was the fued between Paul Roos and Richard Colless after the Roos appointment also, so that played a big part in it as well.

He would be a good compliment to a Clarko type, but doesn’t seem like he’s a stand alone leader

And they’re 14th on the ladder despite all the draft picks they’ve been gifted over many years.

Pretty sure I heard Jon Ralph mention at half time in the Crows game that Goodwin is safe for next year, expects others to be moved on.

Granted its too early to tell but they have played a lot better over the last 12 months. Percentage over a hundred compared to sixty last year reflects that. I guess we’ll see whether he’s ultimately successful.

Lol. Yeah I am hoping this is one Jon Ralph has no idea about and Goodwin and JM are both gone.

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
