Word of warning to those who want Bennell back in the side. As skilful as he is you need to get the ball to show it.

If there was competition for his spot, I would agree. A lack of intensity and a low-possession game aren't really going to impact us that much.

But it's not like those in the 22 are doing much better than this. I mean, are we really saying Melksham's 8 disposal, 0 tackle, no score game is more impactful than what Bennell might produce? Or Fritsch's 13 disposal, 2 tackle, 0.1 game? Spargo's 9 disposal, 2 tackle, 1 goal game?

Any idea who comes in Titan?

Unfortunately not.

If Hibberd's not ready, it's quite a bit of experience going out without much to bring back (Jones will miss too through injury).

Presumably PIckett is one inclusion. I'd like to see Bennell and Lockhart too, and maybe Baker/Bedford. We'll need players to be able to rotate through centre bounces to take Brayshaw's minutes.

Out: Goodwin

Really looking forward to coming bottom 4 next year too until knuckleheads open their eyes and realise Goodwin isnt going anywhere with this footy club.

A minimum of 7 changes this week surely.

If he plays I hope he has a blinder, it's just in his past 2 games I hardly noticed him.

OMac, Smith, Brayshaw, Harmes, Wagner, Jones

Hibberd, Lockhart, Bennell, Pickett, Bedford, Baker

Do you know if the injuries are serious Titan? 4 days is a very short turnaround for even a mild injury.

Thats a big loss of experience  also isnt it, with no Jones either. Wonder who gets a run through the middle?

Not sure Hibberd will be ready.  I want to see all of those other 5 get called up for sure.

It’s looking like a VFL side.

At least it will have some fresh legs and young hopefully hungry players in it.

Take that any day over the same old.

I hope they take a punt and play Gawne at CHF and put Preuss in the ruck.  We don't lose a lot that way in the ruck but you saw what happened when May went forward in the last quarter with a guy who can compete hard in the air.  Brown (as well as he played) just stuffs Weid up and Weid is the future.  We can't afford to take May from defense.   We are really missing Jackson or an improved Petty.

The Defense should tighten up with Hibberd replacing  Smith who I hope never plays another defensive game for Melbourne again.  I don't know who had the great idea of turning him from a promising forward into a hopeless defender.

Its a pity Jordan and Sparrow are unavailable. Probably VDB to take Brayshaw's spot if injured.

Maybe Bennell to cover Jones if he doesn't come up.

No future in Josh Wagner so I'd take Loquart

Neale Bullen  out for Pickett in.

Goodwin is very stubborn Smith could be that 3rd tall that is hard to match up on but no Goodwin plays him as a defender. I'm tired of him and I don't trust the team - they are flakey.

Jones out is hardly going to make any difference - he shows no leadership out on the field, he's playing for the numbers chasing 300.

I don't, no. Only three games left, one of which is on Monday, so there's not a huge amount of time for them to get back before the end of the home & away season.

Of a 4 day break a few need a rest or a chop out

Out Oscar, Jones, Smith, ANB, Fritch who can stay out till he shows a desire to tackle

In Hibberd, Picket, Pruess (Freo play 2 ruckmen and give Max some relief) Lockhart and Hannan

Preuss/Max both in.

hore available according to burgo with the outs in midfield he comes straight back in for smith and tomlinson stays up the ground?

No brayshaw & jones. harmes extremely unlikely. hibbo good to go

Thats good news. Hore showed plenty for us last year.  He may not fit in the team with both Hibberd and Lever available though.

Yep, replace him with Donald Trump. Get a life, Dr. D.

Harmes, Brayshaw and Jones have had minimal impact the last 2 weeks, Harmes really hasn’t provided us with anything all yr. Brayshaw has had a few good games but overall has been underwhelming, Jones has shown glimpses.

The most startling thing is though there is not much quality to replace them with...

A very interesting observation on the radio today by Leigh Matthews that the coach and his coaching make very little difference to the outcome of games. He said it’s what the players do on the field that wins games, not the coaching. This seems pretty obvious except to some on this blog site.

If Harmes, Brayshaw and Jones are out what other general mids do we have to come in.

AVB is the only one I can think of?

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
