It was going to be a stretch anyway with Cats and Port to play before us

If they lose tonight they can still make it but would have to win all three and get in on 9.5

If they win they will jump up into 8th tonight.

Joe’s kicking is a joke.

Can't believe anyone on here talked him up. Yeah he has his "on" days but nights like tonight is the norm rather than the exception. Totally overrated because Essendon and because Daniher.  If he was Joe Bloggs no-one would be much interested.

This game certainly isn't over. Ball has spent the entire quarter in Essendon's forward half. West Coast are just trying to eat up time but aren't getting the ball forward. Dam wall could break at some point.

Oh dear, how sad...an Essendon loss

Was a blatant 50m not given for 2 players encroaching the protected area, one each side, one raised hands to block kick, from the pass to Mosquito's ahead of his missed set shot with 5 mins to go.

Would've been a 30 meter shot directly in front and likely made it very interesting

Really poor umpiring non-call

Essendon's beaten Collingwood and the bottom 5.

They do, however, get Geelong off a bye - Geelong are on a 0-8 streak in games played after byes during the home and away season and I believe on a 1-12 streak including finals.

Does Joe have two giant Toblerones strapped to his boots??

inexplicably bad kicking.

next up for the cheats - Cats and Port ?

The scary thing about that game is that Essendon nearly won

Saw that. Unbelievable. For all the rubbish ones they give out this was the perfect example why they brought in the rule in the first place.

Guilty as charged. They can keep him.

Watching Hawthorn lose to the winless Crows, no matter if there tanking or not is so Melbourne but so much more enjoyable. Long may it continue, hopefully a minimum of 50 years of being rubbish and irrelevant.

I asked my Hawthorn mate if it was Sherman or Abrams. He said Sherman.  He then replied "To be fair I think the crows are one of the best 0-13 teams I’ve seen!" ?

I don't necessarily agree. They got close but lacked class and their system was rubbish c.f.the eagles who seemed to be on autopilot at times.

And no Kennedy and no Shuey.

First of three games for WCE in 9 days.  Next two against Dogs and Saints.  Difficult to envisage them winning both.  To stay in 4th place they definitely need to win one as Tigs have Adelaide and Freo.  If we want to avoid an elimination final in Perth or against Tigs, we need to finish 6th or 7th so as to play Pies.  Saints or Giants or Dogs to get 8th.  That means three wins required and a percentage boost to comfortably be above Saints.  It starts tomorrow night.....

So when do Hawthorn get relegated?

* story from June

Hawthorn must be hurting financially.  Their finances have been underpinned by revenue from Tas government and tens of millions in pokie revenue.  Both sources have dried up.  They won't be getting much from pokies in the first few months of the next AFL financial year.  And who knows if the Tas gov't will continue with their agreement when it expires.

A new day of reckoning has arrived for the Hawks on and off the field.  Back to join the cellar dwellers for a while.

It would be great if the commentators could stop pretending this last few games is anything other than Daniher's farewell tour ?

Yep, a tough stretch for West Coast away from Perth and missing some players.

The key issue for us is that if they drop either of the Dogs/Saints games they will be helping those sides get to 10 wins. If the Eagles win both, it keeps alive the possibility that we can qualify for finals on 9 wins.

Exactly Titan and that's why I don't think 9 wins will do it for the Dees, even with a good percentage.  I can see Giants getting to 10 wins and one or other of Dogs / Saints and I wouldn't want to rely on Pies losing all three.   Need three wins for mine.....
